I’m a big fan of this strategy, and I’d love to share how I use it in my work.

Why Do I Choose Link Insertion?

For me, this method has two key advantages:

1️⃣ It saves time and resources on content creation. If you’ve ever written high-quality content, you know how demanding and time-consuming it can be. With link insertion, you’re working with an existing page, skipping the effort of writing new content.

2️⃣ It offers more predictability. When selecting a page for link placement, I can already evaluate its potential—traffic, indexing status, and authority. Guest posting, on the other hand, is always a gamble. Will the new page get indexed? Will it generate traffic?

However, this method also has its limitations.
• Not all platforms allow you to insert links into existing content
• Finding the right page where your link fits naturally and contextually can be challenging.

How to Make Link Insertion More Effective?

✅ Choose high-quality platforms. The authority of the site and the quality of its content determine how quickly the page gets recrawled and whether your link is indexed.

✅ Avoid oversaturated pages. If a page already has 4-5 backlinks to your competitors, the SEO value of your link may be lower.

✅ Place your link as high as possible in the content. The higher the link appears in the text, the more weight it carries in search engine rankings.

The Key Question: Does Link Insertion Guarantee Indexing?

- No, it doesn’t.
Just because a page is already indexed doesn’t mean Google will automatically recognize your new link. It will only be indexed when the search engine crawls the page again.

How can you speed up the process?
• Use websites with regularly updated content—such pages tend to be crawled more frequently.
• Ask the webmaster to submit a request for reindexing via Google Search Console.
• Prioritize high-quality sites that receive steady traffic and search engine attention.

Link insertion is a powerful promotion tool that saves resources and makes your strategy more predictable. However, it’s crucial to consider its limitations and choose the right platforms to maximize its effectiveness.

For me both approaches are valid and both can be used to make your website stronger, the choice will depend on your budget and available time to create content for a guest post

Good point about new backlink recognition.

Some people assume that the link should work immediately since page it already indexed but not the case.

On the upside, search engines like to re-crawl pages in their index often so it really doesn't take long and usually no action is required.

Absolutely! Different situations require different strategies.

When it comes to budget, I’ve often observed that link insertion tends to be the more affordable option, making it an even more attractive choice.

Thanks for sharing, link insertion can be indeed quite useful
You're welcome :)

True, usually because there is no content writing expense.

I also noticed webmasters appreciate when you pick the page yourself and specifically highlight text you want hyperlinked. Less effort for them = higher chance of placement for you.

I’ve got my own template for this—just the anchor, the link, a couple of sentences to keep it natural, and a screenshot showing exactly where I want it placed. Makes it super easy and avoids any back-and-forth.

Homepage links are the most powerful type of link, but must be used the MOST sparingly.

Next is link insertions on pages with links. They vary in power depending on the insertion. Really, what you want is an insertion with a page that has backlinks. It's the same effect as a pbn, except rarely will it be as powerful as the homepage.

3rd is link insertions on pages without links. They'll still beat guest posts in my experience, but nowhere near the power of an insertion on a page with links.

4th is guest posts. Guest posts don't have much power, but their advantage is they send a freshness signal. They send a real signal that people are mentioning you in new content on the web. Both this, and keeping certain pages on your own site updated are important.

Homepage links should be less than 5% your RDs. The lower the better.

Link insertions I would say up to about 30%.

These are figures we just guess. There's no way to truly measure what a max would be, but I base my guesses based on what I estimate to be how popular, but completely organic sites would look. This in itself is hard to do, since, are there really any sites that are completely organic? Probably, but they're in the minority. This creates an interesting question of :-

If there are very few natural sites, then this implies that what Google's machine learning is learning from is never truly natural, but unnatural sites trying to look like what they think is natural.

This means there is no such thing as a natural site. Only sites imitating natural, and Google basing its algorithms off this imitation.

So with that in mind, I estimate around 1-5% homepage, 20-40% link insertions and the rest guest posts. (Contextual. This isn't a % of total links. You still have some profile/directories you build, as well as the huge amount of random links all sites pickup)

SEO can never rely on just one tool—it’s always about a combination of factors. Link insertions are just one piece of the puzzle, but they absolutely deserve a place in a solid strategy. No one can ever say with 100% certainty what worked in any given case, but the right mix for the niche and Google’s perception of the site matters a lot.

But we actually had a project that gained serious momentum purely from link insertions, which proves their potential when used correctly.

Absolutely. They definitely work.

And they may very well work fine *today* if the only type of contextual link built is link insertions.

However, I always take actions based on how I think Google could change in the future.

I put myself in their position and imagine what kind of things I might try to look for to find and identify spam sites.

So with that in mind I avoid extremes and try to keep what I perceive as more natural patterns, so for me that would be < 5% homepage, 20-40% link insertions and the rest guest posts.

There are examples of sites that rank with 80% pbns, just as there are examples of people who eat mcdonalds every day and are successful in business and live a long life, but they aren't the optimal or safest strategy for a repeatable system.

I’d separate two questions: placement value and indexing.

A link insertion can be better when the existing page is already indexed, has real organic traffic, ranks for relevant terms, has internal links pointing to it, and your anchor fits naturally in the paragraph. In that case you are joining a page Google already understands.

But it does not guarantee indexing of the link itself in any meaningful SEO sense. Google may have indexed the page months ago, then not crawl it again for a while. If the site is weak, stale, over-sold, or full of random outbound links, the insertion can be ignored or carry very little value.

Guest posts are more of a gamble on indexing, yes, but they give you control over the topic, title, surrounding copy, and internal relevance. A good guest post on an active editorial site can beat a forced insertion on an old, unrelated page.

For insertions, I’d check: current index status, organic traffic trend, ranking keywords, topical match, internal links, outbound link count, page freshness, and whether the sentence reads naturally. Relevance beats convenience.

link insertion is better when the article is already published, indexed, and getting best traffic the keyword and paragrah are both relevant. then link insertion can be best perfume.

but in guest post, you have the control over the topic, tittle, surrounding article, and internal links. getting guest post from good website and is better then link inertion on any random page.

Agreed. Good link insertions on aged, relevant pages can outperform fresh guest posts because the URL already has trust, links, and crawl history. Biggest mistake people make is buying insertions on dead pages with zero traffic or no recrawls.

That’s usually the right way to look at it. A lot of SEO debates become “A vs B” when the real answer is understanding where each fits in the process.

The bigger factor is how well the strategy matches the goal and stage of the site. Common mistake is trying to replace one with the other instead of using them where they actually complement each other.

Good breakdown. Link insertions can be very effective when the page is relevant, already indexed, and getting real traffic.

I also agree that contextual placement matters more now than just getting a link anywhere on the page.

Quality + relevance still seem to win long term.

Link insertions can work faster because the page already has authority and traffic, but they’re only good if the site is relevant and clean.
Neither guest posts nor link insertions guarantee indexing — strong content, crawlability, and overall site trust still matter most.
