is link exchange still useful for seo

In the time that it would take you to find a decent website, that's from a good 'neighborhood' which also is willing to agree to exchange links with you, you could easily write 3-5 guest posts and get some one-way contextual links pointing back at your site.

currently link exchange is not preferred by many SEO experts. they have some defects too

The biggest problem with the link exchange is that if the exchanged linked site is (or will be) considered as spam or negative by Google then your website will be treated as kind. This will make you think twice to exchange links with somebody - even tho most are doing their best to keep their website in a positive position

It can be very useful if and only if the site is relevant, having unique content and the article is on the topic. If it has a good average DA, you can go for it.

Hello,
Link exchange is good. improve website traffic and page rank but this technique is bed for SEO.

Link exchange is good, but not directly exchange, google easily catch it
To do link exchange, you at least need to have 2 sites with good P R, one exchange links for the other.
And the exchanged links should from the relevant sites.

Of course link exchange especially with niche specific sites is good and a healthy form of link building that benefits your SEO and PR, just not to much, diversity is always the key.

In link exchange, the only problem i found is usually the other party wants to be smarter and so offers you a low value link in reverse.

Link exchange is dead. There are services that spam the F*** out of sites and that is what google makes us do in order to rank anywhere.

Link exchange was, is and will be. Times have changed and you must use it, instead of abuse it. Proper link exchange will do a lot for your site. You can get "seo juice" you can get traffic out of it. Post "google animal release" you have to make sure you exchange with relevant sites etc.

I agree with trafficfeed 100%

Either that or they cloak the backlink out....

Links exchange is important, and you can have plenty back links if you are lucky. If there is some sites links to you with all his pages, then you' ll get ten thousands of links, that's will do great benefit to your site's traffic. I had a site links to my site with all his pages, and then I get 40,000 links from his. Then my traffic from google rises from 1200 to 1800 per day.

It still works and can do magic if done properly.

[h=1]I think the proper Link exchange is the only legal way to get backlinks. One-way backlinks are good, but cross Link exchange in most cases a free way to gain backlinks to your site.[/h]

I think it might help still, but also believe there are much better ways to increase a sites PR and rank...

Also as others have said, webmasters try to do you with a bad link too often and it's a hell of a hassle to monitor

Well if Google track this exchange you will be penalized for PR sculpting.

There is one way which I use: Exchange links, but add rel="nofollow" to outgoing link ;)

That way there won't be a any PR sculpting, just another website linking to your domain.

yes its still a good way. but you have to do niche link exchange with high PR domains. its a part of link Leverage and good for SEO.
