Is Link Building Dead Again… or Stronger Than Ever?

I still feel backlinks matter, just in a more natural way than before. In 2025 i am leaning less on forced link building and more on creating stuff people actually want to share. real mentions and genuine authority seem to make the biggest difference now

You cannot ignore link building. Backlinks still determine the ranking , they are number one ranking factor for Google ranking.
 
Link building still works, but the old spammy stuff doesn’t help anymore, with so much AI content online, google uses real backlinks to decide which site it can trust, cheap guest posts on random blogs don’t move rankings now google ignores them, what works is getting links from real, niche-related sites that actually have traffic, so yeah, links still matter, you just have to build smarter, not in bulk.

AI first websites have no long term future. You should make a blog with human written content only. And the quality of content should also be very good, you should not hesitate to pay premium for it.
 
In 2025 I still prioritise high quality, relevant link development, but support it with strong topical authority, brand signals, and genuinely useful content rather than links alone.
 
Backlinks are a more important signal now to fight back against AI slop. There was a time when they seemed to be getting less important—maybe around 2017 to 2021—but everything changed when AI came along.
