Google keeps saying backlinks don’t matter, but anyone who actually checks the rankings can see they still do. It’s like Google saying “don’t worry about the gym” while the people who lift are the ones looking fit.

For 2025, I’d still keep building links, just in a smarter way. Go for clean authority links, mix in some solid niche placements, and pair it with content that actually answers what people search for.

If you do that, you stay safe in updates and your site grows. Skipping links in 2025 is like skipping leg day. You can do it, but you won’t like the results.:)
 
Honestly, links still move the needle, so in 2025 I’m treating them like fuel, use them smartly, not blindly, and they still help you win.

I still invest in link development through digital PR because authority moves faster with the right mentions.

The fact that actual case studies and reviews show linking is a leading key to better SEO, despite Google and its gurus claiming the opposite, should make people suspicious of the other claims that Google Inc keeps making about "what works now" in improving ranking. All that verbiage about how G can instantly shut down any and all BH tactics, all those articles (and forum posts) repeating the talking points about pursuing "clusters" and schemas over classic keyword research, and so on. Who really benefits from all that mumble speak?

Offpage backlinking works, that's the signal, most of the rest is noise. All those WH thread answers that sound like some people consulted the same AI generator to make them etc, may be mostly distracting clutter and brain rot. How about going with the best case studies, including SEO journeys you have under taken yourself, to find out on your own what's working now, instead of just buying into the latest corporate SEO industry decrees?

Even if you do very good link building, it is not easy to mantain rankings. But suppose , you already have a ranking website. It is obvious that you will not leave it in between.

People are doubling down on quality + relevance, not volume

Smart, selective link building still works.
 
Backlinks might be irrelevant according to google, but everyone can see they still play a role. In 2025, it feels less about doing heavy link building and more about creating stuff people naturally want to share. If that’s happening, the authority comes on its own without forcing it
 
Link building definitely isn't dead, but it’s definitely shifting. I'll keep focusing on quality links, though, just with a bit more attention on creating natural, valuable content that people actually want to link to.
 
Luckily I'm receiving traffic also if I don't have any relevant backlink...but I'm sure that could help.

Dead again ? Yes , it gets dead in every thread created like this once a while.

In reality, the need and importance lf good seo is more than before.
 
Link building is important just for quality content. Nowadays, search engine monitoring systems are much smarter than in the past. So I think only quality backlinks can get better output.
