I've just read some articles and installed the Likee App, and was wondering what Blackhatters would say about this. Is it worth investing on Likee? Or it's waste of time dealing with it!

I think it's impossible to beat TikTok right now unless some juicy news comes out about their "overlords" and the app gets shut down in the major countries like the US

Never even heard of this app but from similarweb they're at around 1mil clicks last month with Russia as their main geo, if you got an angle which can take advantage of the app's current userbase then definitely not a waste of time, but if you're in a position to choose between this app vs tiktok I would say tiktok everyday

I am hearing about this platform for first time. I do not think it will compete with tiktok.

Likee is focusing on asian countries currently... and there are a lot of app competing to take on tiktok so one/two app will win in the end.

I also think that TikTok is now really big especially when you see Celebrities there with Blue ticks, it's really hard to compete with it. But I think you have a very good point, only if US and some Tier 1 countries want to shut it down, only they can.

I've read for Likee for 2 days, and they say that they already are in India with millions of users. They also are competing with Live streaming, with more effects ( you also have some 4d effects that you don't have in TikTok ) and also with giving credits=money (not sure for this one).

It's not just Asian countries they're trying to push it to US, France everywhere. And their stats increased every single month. They were even the 4th most downloaded app according to some articles I've read.
Here's a paragraph from PRweb

Apps-by-download-2.jpg

Likee - a global video sharing platform owned by JOYY, has jumped to the 4th most downloaded app worldwide, reaching over 100.2 million active users monthly in over 200 countries. The upward move, reported by Sensor Tower, comes only one month after App Annie positioned the company as seventh worldwide in its annual "State of Mobile" report released in January 2020. That report also noted Likee’s audience growth had out-paced other dominant streaming platforms such as Snap’s Snapchat (SNAP), Netflix and Spotify for total downloads worldwide and listed Tik Tok as fourth.

Indians will download any app if it shows booby girls. and then we have worlds cheapest internet.

Likee uses fake -but effective- ads, espically in 3rd world countries, I think that's why their downloads are going higher and higher, but I wonder how many of those users uninstall the app after knowing it's not like how it's advertised.

I was just looking for a thread about Likee. It certainly has a focus on the live streaming element and feels like a TikTok clone that has taken heavy inspiration from YouNow back in the day. A lot of the big TikTok accounts are starting to stream on Likee as well. Probably not the best short term opportunity right now but I'm going to put a little bit of time into Likee, just in case it gains some serious traction.

My clients (who are all in the 'professional influencer' space) say that a lot of influencers are starting to talk about it and deciding whether it is worth creating content.

I was trying to find other people's opinion but couldn't find anywhere here. I searched BHW and there were none threads for Likee. It will be good to share with us info that you have and that you will get in future. If more influencers start using it, we should start as well.

Sometimes I think that having a whitehat business is the best way to succeed at blackhat. I used to post a bit on the TikTok part of the forum and I wrote the (now unstickied) TikTok megathread. Most of the information I got for that thread came from my account manager at TikTok that I had because of the clients I managed.

2 of my clients are going to start using Likee as a trial and I'm going to give it a go with my personal brand as well. I'll see how it goes and report back.

I'm also going to see what I can do and get a Likee 'account manager'. I'm not sure if they even exist but usually by showing off some client names, you eventually get an insider.

I wonder whether it would be worth gathering those interested in Likee on BHW and putting together a little private 'mastermind' group.

Branding is King, and with the name "likee", i would say it is highly unlikely. Just not as capturing as the other social media names (including Tiktok)

Branding is king but tbh I don't see a problem. If people like the platform and the name isn't terrible, it won't make a difference. As far as we know, they could easily rebrand 6 months down the line as a lot of platforms do.

imho Likee is far more brandable than musical.ly

True, good point. I guess only time will tell.

Branding is a key point, but traffic and downloaded numbers are the main point to these apps. TikTok years ago used to not look so serious brand but now it is. And I've seen many people in some countries saying "likee" with double e instead of like, I guess it's a trend in their language.

Totally agree with that. Quarantine days will grow TT & Likee much more than they normally could.

There is HUGE opportunity for content on platforms like TikTok & Likee. These are the platforms that people are filling their free time with right now. If you're not already trying to succeed on these platforms, everyone needs to. There is plenty of 'watchtime' to go around rn, and that means more exposure for you.

it has potential. its just always so hard to say with these companies...
