Hello, I do not have paid google ads kw planner yet. So for a keyword that I looked for, kw planner showed 1k-10k range. But keyword surfer chrome extension showed only 90 USA searches.

What is accurate? Is there any free tool that shows correct data?

there can't be "accurate" tool for search volume, only google has that data and we partially get access to it through google adwords keyword tool. so I suggest you try few tools and see which one has the most "Predicatiblity" close to being accurate. its all about your exp. and for me adwords keyword tool exact search volume is what i consider for my keyword research cause it comes directly from google and my exp. of it being "accurate" is quite satisfactory.

before using any third party keyword research tool, learn how they have built the tool and how it works, do keyword surfer search volume is for "exact keyword" or is it phrase match or broad match? what is the size of their keyword database if they have their own database ? are they using adwords api to pull keyword search volume ?

in short, keyword surfer is accurate or not, well it depends.

So in google kw planner, I should do like [kw] instead of just kw ?

generally, no one uses [keyword] for their keyword research and there must be good reasons for it. again its something you learn through doing lots of keyword research and gain exp. what works for you. BHW has many threads about how to do keyword research and I highly recommend you go through it before starting out as a newbie.

Google keyword planner provides you the best result for your keyword. Also, you will get the exact search volume from the account you run paid ads.
