Is it true that a link from a sub-domain has no value?

I've been focusing a lot of my link building efforts on High DA 2.0 sites and most of them are website creation platforms and so, I'm getting links from a sub-domain, just like wordpress. These sites aren't the only ones i build my links on but they surely are a major part. Now, in this forum only, I've seen many members who claim that a link from a sub-domain of even a high authority website has little or no value. Is that really true? If that really is the case then i'll perhaps have to revise my link building strategies.

Nothing wrong with a subdomain as long as it gets decent link juice.

As long as the subdomain has link juice, believe me, it will help your rankings

It might be that you're confusing newly created subdomains (such as on web 2.0 services) with subdomains with actual juice.

If I remember correctly a couple of years ago Mat Cutts said that subdomains are considered as being a separate website, although I wouldn't really trust what G is saying

Yes, you might be correct. i assumed that they are getting link juice because the DA of the sub-domains is the same as the parent domain. Nothing suspicious in the robots.txt file as well. Is there any other way to look at it? Do newly created sub-domains get no link juice? Even if they have the same DA?

Just check the backlink profiles, it's not a rocket science.

Subdomains are treated as new domains, that is true, but they inherit some of the authority of the root domain. Tumblr for example.

If the sub domain has referring domains it will pass some of that on. The DR that ahrefs shows is a guide for the base domains score.
