Is it time to move to VPS?

Hello,

I run a niche streaming website on WordPress, lately we've been maxing out our resource usage on our shared hosting, even though we have the best plan. On cpanel our "Entry Processes", "CPU Usage" & "Physical Memory Usage" max out whenever we have more than 140 unique user at same time and in turn get "resource limit reached" errors.

Thing is, when I told our hosting provider about our visitor count he said that our plan should be enough for our website & it's probably the website is not optimized perfectly, but I hear everywhere that one should move to VPS if you get more than 10000 unique visit a day. We've been averaging that number since the start of this month but the last 3 months we've been averaging 5000 unique users a day. We also have caching plugin installed and cloudflare is setup perfectly so I don't know what to do.

It's not really a price issue since the starter plan for the VPS in the hosting company is $19.95 and it's only about $5 more than we pay for the best shared hosting plan, but I like cpanel because it's simple so I'm not sure how hard VPS is and how do you configure it, I'm guessing the hosting will take care of migration but then we have 0 experience in dealing with SolusVM VPS Panel.

So what do you guys and gals think about this? Is it time to move to VPS and is SolusVM VPS Panel hard to navigate or configure for non experts?

PS: We are not looking for a hosting offers, just opinions and thoughts of experienced users. Please forgive any grammatical errors and such as English is not my main language.

It is time to move to VPS when you feel comfortable with handling it, I suppose. And by the way it is possible to find a VPS with pre-installed OS and control panel.

Yes when you start getting more traffic it is recommend that you get a VPS system that way you have full control over it.

Now you host says that your plan should be able to handle that many visitors. Could be they are basing that on a basic site that uses no resources.

Your issue could be that you are using more than the cpu process or ram that they give out with a shared hosting plan.

I would recommend you move to at least a 1GB VPS with cPanel and run that for a month and see how your resources are used. If need to you can alwayls bump up the cores and ram on your VPS as needed to keep your site running smooth.

if you are maxing out at 140 users there is something wrong.. i had the same issue of maxing out at low uniques and it was wordfence that wrote some code into my htacess file basically creating a loop. i would start by getting someone to look into your website set up before migrating.

You definitely have to move on VPS plan , athu streaming websites are not resource suchers having 5000/daily in some cases might be too much for shared hosting (depending on the hosting provider server optimization and website optimziation).

However, for your budget (or little more) you could get semi-managed VPS with SSD storage.

SolusVM / Virtualizor are used from hosting providers or dedicated servers owners in order to create and manage containers (VPS).

Thank you guys for all your input, very much appreciated, we've managed to move to VPS, turns out one of our custom players takes lots of resources so we had to make the move and I think it's for the best as we are already growing.
