Is it that easy to take down a site?

I just ran a couple tests with the SB ping mode and took down several sites. The sites I'm talking about are quite popular and getting several dozen k traffic per month up to 100k and extremely low alexa rank if that matters.. I used my own IP, google as referrer (multiple lines) and a deep link of those sites to ping. I noticed that those sites wouldn't load anymore during my tests and even minutes after.

Is it really that easy?

That's cruel. But I could easily run an instance 24/7 in ping mode on my competitors :D
Or would google or whoever (even if I used different referrer) see that the pings are coming from me?
 
That sounds interesting :P If it's traceable then I think they can sue you probably or something.

Where does it say on your internet service providers contract that you can't ping a website as much as you want? Even on the website itself, their terms of visiting probably don't mention how much they allow you to ping. It's their fault for having lack code.
 
If you are pinging to much you cause denial of service which I think is listed in your contract as not legal. But they really don`t care that much If you just take down some websites and don`t start some serious shit.
 
More than likely, the site wasn't down, just down for you. It would take much more bandwidth than you have to take down a website. I would assume that the network you were pinging had anti-ddos protection, and blocked you, thinking that you were trying to attack it.
 
Don't want to burst your bubble, pal, but I'm under the impression that the pinging overload YOUR bandwidth and not the server's bandwidth. Is there something I missed?

100% sure it was down. Asked a friend to check it out. And my network was still fast as hell with everything else.

Yeah I think dos is illegal too, but I have a program for that too :o

Nope, checked with different networks.


I pinged with 4 instances @ about 50pings per second each BTW.

That essentialy is what a denial of service attack is. But were you trying to connect with the same computer you were pinging from? Might have been tying up your own connnection. Most servers will block the ip if they are being flooded like that.

This is not so easy as you are thinking.May be they are not down,they down your IP.
 
Hmm did not work for me still sending the pings but no sign of the site slowing down.
 
Again, I'm sure it wasn't just my IP that was blocked or that it ate up my bandwidth, it didn't even slow down anything.

Try running 5 or more instances. And if you're lazy and want to do something illegal get low orbit ion cannon and USE it.
 
More likely your IP was banned by firewall or php script.
So if you used your own IP for that purpose enjoy eternal ban. :-)
 
Taking down sites is fun when you're like sixteen and figure it out how to do it and have proper knowledge of networking but when you grow up it's just lame.

What you're doing is very basic resource starvation which is .. kiddie style :)

You don't even have to actually connect to it.

But yes, it's that easy. No.. much easier.

Think before you act. It's not blackhat it's just pure evil. Doing it the way you did is not just illegal, childish and evil, it's lame. Not to mention the damage you do just for fun.

Still think it's fun just because you know how? Then PM me your site and watch it going down in no time without a single connection made to it.

You'll quickly figure out it's not fun at all.
 
Could someone spoonfeed the best settings for PRstorm for people who'd like to DDOS attacks to lowrange sites please?
