Well, obviously the human body is smart enough to counter such stuff, This is one of the most basic biological processes/failsafes. It is so basic that it is observed in lower organisms too. I can write a whole page on this but simply put - not all of what you eat is stored in the body, if there is too much of a particular micronutrient (lets say a vitamin) in the body then
1. its absorption decreases
2. its excretion increases
This is a failsafe mechanism that exists for most of the microutrients and minerals (Except iron). Additionally, it's often seen that people are on the lower side of the recommended levels (and even deficient).
Even if you happen to overdose on a vitamin, the efforts of doctors are not to actively remove that vitamin but just to support the body in reaching equilibrium, the body balances the levels by itself.
Yes, too much sun can kill you, I wasn't making a counter argument on that. What i wanted to say was - where should one stop? If you keep going down the original argument then too much of sun, water, air, everything can kill you.
My overall point to this is, there is a recommended limit that you should not go over this isn't some random limit, this is limit created from many studied and agreed upon by many medical professionals, you should be hitting that recommended limit with most diets. Multivitamins are there for people with proven deficiencies, not people who are guessing whether they are deficient. And yes too much anything can kill you.
You could take vitamin tablets, be overdosing, and feel perfectly fine. You don't need to die from an overdose or have symptoms for it to be bad for you, you can slowly degrade without any symptoms at all. Just like binge drinkers, they feel perfectly fine, but after a good few years they start to feel ill. Shortly after they need a new liver or they will die.
They've clearly found some sort of consequence to going over the recommended limit, otherwise that wouldn't be the limit.
