Is it safe to take multivitamin tablets?

Well, obviously the human body is smart enough to counter such stuff, This is one of the most basic biological processes/failsafes. It is so basic that it is observed in lower organisms too. I can write a whole page on this but simply put - not all of what you eat is stored in the body, if there is too much of a particular micronutrient (lets say a vitamin) in the body then
1. its absorption decreases
2. its excretion increases

This is a failsafe mechanism that exists for most of the microutrients and minerals (Except iron). Additionally, it's often seen that people are on the lower side of the recommended levels (and even deficient).

Even if you happen to overdose on a vitamin, the efforts of doctors are not to actively remove that vitamin but just to support the body in reaching equilibrium, the body balances the levels by itself.

Yes, too much sun can kill you, I wasn't making a counter argument on that. What i wanted to say was - where should one stop? If you keep going down the original argument then too much of sun, water, air, everything can kill you.

My overall point to this is, there is a recommended limit that you should not go over this isn't some random limit, this is limit created from many studied and agreed upon by many medical professionals, you should be hitting that recommended limit with most diets. Multivitamins are there for people with proven deficiencies, not people who are guessing whether they are deficient. And yes too much anything can kill you.

You could take vitamin tablets, be overdosing, and feel perfectly fine. You don't need to die from an overdose or have symptoms for it to be bad for you, you can slowly degrade without any symptoms at all. Just like binge drinkers, they feel perfectly fine, but after a good few years they start to feel ill. Shortly after they need a new liver or they will die.

They've clearly found some sort of consequence to going over the recommended limit, otherwise that wouldn't be the limit.

There is no issue into supplementing your body with some more vitamins if you don't take enough of them every day.

I order them for my whole family, and I think they're very useful if you're not eating enough fruits and vegetables daily.

Get 'daily multivitamin' from MyProtein for a cheap and good choice. Most brands are way overpriced. (For any supplement)
Isn't the A-Z Multivitamin from myprotein better? The daily doesn't have that many vitamines

In the United States, overdose exposure to all formulations of "vitamins" (which includes multi-vitamin/mineral products) was reported by 62,562 individuals in 2004 with nearly 80% of these exposures in children under the age of 6, leading to 53 "major" life-threatening outcomes and 3 deaths (2 from vitamins D and E; 1 from polyvitaminic type formula, with iron and no fluoride).
I guess you're quoting Wikipedia. Here are the updated numbers

48,630 single exposures to vitamins,
1697 minor adverse outcomes
189 moderate outcomes
5 major outcomes (2 of them involving vitamin D)
no deaths.

To give anyone reading this a glimpse of the bigger picture. This number comes out to be 0.00014% of the US Population.
0.00014% People suffer from overdose (Mostly children, who are attracted to the colorful shiny pills)

94.3% of the US population do not meet the daily requirement for vitamin D
88.5% for vitamin E
52.2% for magnesium
44.1% for calcium
43.0% for vitamin A, and
38.9% for vitamin C

It really depends on your diet. If you're eating lots of fruits & vegetables, you don't need vitamins, you could even overdose & don't take Megadose vitamins like 5 time RDA.
If you want energy you could take Tyrosin in the morning.

Someone on Facebook said that Bill Gates has put a tracing chip in them so take with caution.

I have multivitamin with cod liver oil. I take them when I remember not religiously. I think unless you are popping them like sweets or are on some kind medication which could effect it there will be no problem.

Could be, but they're 4x more expensive. I just take one daily as addition, as I already eat fruits or veggies 4-5x a day :)

yes defintely take them.

i also suggest taking 1000 g of vitamin D every other day while you take multi vitamin on a daily basis.

i take my multi vitamin around noon time, it gives me a boost for the afternoon
Mr. Positive did you really liked when he said 1000 grams of vitamin D?

Sigh... I really don't want to be dragged into a stupid argument where someone can't present a case.

Your bigger picture glimpse is wrong.

The 0.00014% of the US Population argument is wrong as EVERYONE in the USA needs to be taking a multivitamin. Which they are not.

It's like saying (to use your previous posting examples)

Only 0.00005% (or whatever) of UK population overdose from Heroin so it's OK.

You can't twist figures when trying to provide "factual" evidence to fit your argument.

End of the day no one knows OPs diet better than him. Can't give blanket sweeping advice on a marketing forum, everyone is different.

Most vitamins in there (b12, c, etc) you do not need them, any normal diet gives enough of them.
Usually the minerals people miss the most are zinc (especially if you don't eat lots of meat), calcium (if you do not drink lots of milk/dairy) and...vitamin d, if you live in a cold country or in general in winter.
Sometimes even omega 3. It's best to take those supplements individually.

Overdosing in anything can be unhealthy and potentially harmful. Take for example review copies. If you have too many of those, the other sellers might take you as a serial reviewer and not as a future customer, hence not prefer to give you a review copy. Same goes with multi vitamins. Consult a doctor. If (s)he advices some, take it as per prescription. Don't "treat" yourself.

Yes, it's safe. just ask your doctor what are your mostly needed vitamins to intake

Drink mineral water. It contains all essential minerals.

Due to covid lockdown i been suggested to take multivitamin tablets to keep my energy levels high, but never took those before so whay are your views are they safe

Take a tablet along with lunch. They can't harm you IMO. Some say multivitamin don't do anything, it seems controversial. But it won't do you any harm if you take them IME. I used to take those complete vitamin things for years. Made me pee orange pee.

Yes, it's safe to take multi vitamins, but unless you have several deficiencies (if you live in a first world country you probably don't), they are completely useless.
You should get a blood test, see if you have any deficiencies (for most people it's vitamin D and/or vitamin B12) and take specific supplements for these deficiencies.
Most micro nutrients conflict with each other when it comes to absorption, so even though multi vitamins are packed with everything you might need, you won't actually assimilate everything.
The most common example would be calcium and iron. If you take both at the same time, calcium will interfer with iron absorption and you won't absorb as much iron as you would have if you took it alone.
Another example is vitamin B5 (panthotenic acid) and vitamin B7 (biotin). B7 is good for the skin and hair, but if you take too much of it you won't absorb B5 which protects the skin and you'll get acne.

You do not need a multivitamin if your food is full of vitamins.

Nope
Ive been doing a lot of reading from medical website. It aint safe. Good source of vitamin and mineral are coming from real food. Otherwise you gonna get vitamin toxicity(over volume that your body need).. You piss gonna turned very yellow.. that’s not good signs for your kidneys and liver.

But single vitamin, mineral such as magnesium chelated, vitamin D, calcium, zinc etc you have no problem to take it, with maximum 2-3 times max per week.

Still..good sources of vitamin are coming from your food- vege, meats, fruits etc

Nor straight throws bunch of vitamin tablets into your body like simple sugar.
