Im a Chinese traveller to east coast of the USA.I will watch a NBA match at Barklay Center,Brooklyn in the beginning of this November.

I think it's going to be over 23 o'clock local time after the match so Im wondering if it's safe for my wife and I to get back our hotel near wall street, manhattan by subway? Is there really crimes in the subway in late night? Do I have to take a taxi for safety concerns?

Thanks for any advise from someone here, who lives in Brooklyn.

if your Downtown Brooklyn..yeah it is. If your across the streets from the projects well...shit happens.

You will be fine you won't be alone and you'll be with the 15,000+ other fans. New York is safer then ever..... I've taken the subway at all hours of the day and night.

I agree with both of the above posters, however understand that the NY subway system typically isn't easy to understand for those who don't have experience with it.
If you don't have a proficient understanding of the subway, it will probably prove more convenient for you to spend some extra cash on a taxi.

Yep take the cab. Brooklyn in average is pretty ghetto, but comng from the game etc. you will be ok. In general think about a cab as later in the day and non main routes you might have to wait longer than you both like.
Check the subway map before so you do not have to get out and get to the other side and take the train back. In general for tourists its pretty safe unless you go to central park or any other at night etc.

If it was me I would get a cab, it's just peace of mind. Especially when your in a place you've never been before, nothing worse then getting lost at night in a foreign state/country.

You'd probably be OK as far as safety is concerned, Pro-ba-bly, But You're with your wife man why even take the chance. All it would take is getting caught seated or standing next to some unsavory looking or smelling character and then you'd probably prefer the wrath of a mugger over what you'll receive when you get back to the Hotel from the Mrs...
Although you could wind up with a smelly Cabbie who moonlights as a mugger

Just kidding, big ups to my New York Family -lol
Man just catch a cab and be done with it.

Get a cab and ask price upfront. Then knock $10 off. Don't take first price.

I'm from NJ and go to NYC often...just take a taxi and you will be fine. I wouldn't be too worried because there will be many other people leaving the game around the same time.

Depends were you going, don't listen all other people. Take in your hands MTA(Subway Map) map http://www.mta.info/maps/submap.html - find brooklyn and there you will see 2 lines B(Orange),Q(Yellow) - Everything from the Right side is Bad, everything from the left side is Good . And you safe :)

If you and your wife are properly armed with concealed handguns, you should be safe anywhere you go in New York City.

Many years ago, some criminals tried to attack a man in the New York Subway and he taught them, and the entire city, a lesson they will never forget. They are a respectful people now; and are both kind and courteous, all thanks to the greatest American Hero before George Zimmerman.

I have been in Brooklyn/Manhatten one year ago for a couple days, I felt pretty safe, compare to where I live in the UK now.
I saw recently a Docu about Brooklyn, they are improving - if you really fear that much do things daytime,be at home/hotel around 9 pm. ,-)))
good luck

IF it is safe I'll definitely get back by subway instead of taxi to save some money, around 20 dollars I think. That's why I want to get some advices from you here.
But looks like everyone is voting for a cab so I decide not to take the subway at late night.
However...can I get a cab in the crowd just after the game? So many NBA fans there...

Btw,BHW is much better than Yahoo answers and warriorforum as I just got few responses there.

Thank you all for the input!!!

hahahahahahaha

.

I wonder if some of these posters have ever been to the US, let along Brooklyn. Anyway, getting a cab will probably not be simple given the number of people leaving the game who are looking for the same thing. You can always call ahead and book one though, but it won't be cheap

. Also, don't be paranoid, but don't stare at anyone either.

It's your first time late at night so definitely get a cab. There will be more than enough of them.
