Hi guys I'm a rookie within the keyword business, but I'm learning pretty fast. You can spend / waste a lot of hours here in BHW

We have a 9 year old adult website with nice Google rankings allround. The competition on the high volume keywords is huge, so we've thought harvesting small niches by writing posts and articles targeting the niche keywords.

I have attached a screenshot of the SEO competion on one niche from Market Samurai (haven't made enough posts yet to link). All sites are ranking on the keyword with their main domain - not with a subcategory or a post/article itself.

If I analyze the chart, it seems that none have optimized their ranking page (in this case their main domains) for the keyword, but almost all sites have a lot of backlinks and are aged domains. I've also run Micro Niche Finder and it reports green light - 1-20 in SOC.

Market Samurai report on our site: BLP 25000 and BLD 380000. We are on page 3 on this specific keyword.

The questions is, would it be possible to rank on page 1, if we write an article targeting a specific keyword without getting backlinks? In other words getting 4x "Y" in Title, URL, Desc and Head.

If not, how many backlinks would you guys recommend and from where? Social bookmarks, blog comments, etc?

thats not competition - well not much, do the basics first - ie get your keywords in the title - h1 tags etc. All your competition pretty much dont do this so your right to do this first

Thanks for your answers guys, it's nice to know we're on the right track :D
The search volume is around 400 a month. We are going for the "easy" keywords to start off with, just to achieve a little success, and then later on, try to grab some of the harder niches if we feel we can do it.

good luck mate, i totally understand your logic and reasoning behind going after the smaller keywords to start - but let me try and open your eyes a bit. - i am not doing this to be harsh in any way, i am doing this to try and help you and steer you in the right direction.

    400 searches per month

    thats 13 per day

If you are top of Google on page 1 you get 65% of clicks (roughly tested)

So thats 8.66 clicks per day - For Being Very Top of G

Ask yourself how long will it take you to get onto page 1

Then how long to get to top 4 of page 1

Then how long for top 2

Then how long to be top.

Add all that time and then answer this question

"Was all that time i spent worth getting less than 9 clicks per day"

In short - Try one between 3k-6k results first - it doesnt have to be really competitive.

I hear what you're saying, and actually that's also what we are trying to do. The example I gave you is one of those with few searches a month. We are also going after some of the bigger ones. In short, we convert pretty good for being in the adult market and the niches we are targeting are well converting, so we don't need that many uniques before we have a sale :)

We are gonna put out around 50 articles and see where it takes us.

Thanks for all your answers, if you guys have more input please let me have it :)

I'll come back an update this thread when I have som results for you.

I wouldn't go after 400 searches a month if I was you. I am making my first SEO website right now (I am mainly doing Facebook Marketing, so never made SEO websites/keyword research) and I start with a 400K+Exact/Month and $1CPC right away. I would not go for the easy keywords. Instead of wasting your time on that simply do some keyword research. You can find way better keywords. Good luck!

Are you sure that is also the case within the adult niche? In my opinion it's very saturated. It's hard finding keywords to rank for without getting a huge catalogue of backlinks imo.

Just to sum up - the reason we target the easy ones is to achieve some success, which will encourage us to try the harder keywords. Also, the keywords we are targeting are those we have an idea will convert well with our moneysite. Not those with high CPC.
