i saw somone on facebook selling a free domian method. i was just wondering if it is possible

If you get a new hosting package, often they offer free domain for 1 year.
Or sometimes there are promos, free or near free depending on tld.
Some tld could be around $1, but usually they are garbage.
Regarding a "method", I dont know any (I have been looking for 12 years), but I am more than happy to check it (I doubt it though, especially bulk).

Never saw good free tld without hosting package, may be you can try ionos for 1$ .com.

Go to amen.pt (portugal site). Use Google translate.
Register and search some domain. You get free 1 year domain.
2 x .com
2 x .pt
i recommend that don't get those .pt domains, because they will send you pretty sure message, where they want better authentication. You have to send some number, because that .pt domain is Portuguese national domain address. So they are investigating those more.
In the payment option, you need to add card details, but you can delete those after the verification. So they won't automatically charge you money.
After that you can change the name-servers to some hosting or redirect the domains to something else.
When the 1 year is ending, it's very possible, that the domain is very expensive.. amen.pt is maybe good for little projects.. but let see. I can by wrong in that price after the year.

i first time heard this in 1.2 - 1.3.2020.
And i "bought" yesterday 4 more domains. Not yet closed. So it's working.

once you worked on free domain after sometime they will start charging and their cost so expensive so if you have done much work on your site you are trapped to buy that because you don't have any other way to continue your work. So free domain is actually not free it will become much expensive as compare others

yes, there are free domain names, here they are:
.tk .ml .ga .cf .gq .eu.org
BUT, I would highly suggest avoiding them - these are spammer domains :/ .. most services limit these domain - in our case, smtp services are cut off for these domains
