Is It Normal For Non-Native To Write @ $2/Article

After trying for some time to get article writing jobs, I finally got one client, we made a deal to write $3/700 words.

I completed 30 articles without complain from his own, all content pass copyscape premium.

He sends another batch but but will pay $2/700.

Is it normal to charge such rate or is that my writing horrible?

Here is a short paragraph sample from one of the articles I’ve written;

How To Collect Emails From Your Blog

· Add Sticky Top Bar

This is a small noticeable window that’s placed at the top of the screen, it’s noticeable even when the user scrolls down the page, and will grab more attention. You’ll get higher opt-in rate provided you have the best content on your website.

Hello Bar should be your first option if you want to add a sticky top bar on your website, a lot of powerful websites are using their services and have noticed an increase in subscribers by over 1000.

· Offer Your Visitors Content Upgrade

Another good way to increase your email subscribers but yet a lot of marketers aren’t doing this.

This involves creating content that provides more information and is an extension to your blog posts. Your content upgrade should be in the form of PDF format providing more information that’s better than the content on your website.


I honestly spend anywhere from 40 min to 1hr writing an article on average.

I don’t know whether the content market is saturated or is that my content isn’t good enough to be published online.

I don’t mind to write articles for $2 if that’s what the quality of my writing is worth, but I need the members of this great forum to rate my writing.

Based on my writing, should I just write at $2 or keep looking for other jobs that pay better?

Also please make suggestions on sources where I can find enough work on a daily basis.

I once met a non-native content writer who was getting away with charging 3000 USD a month to write 10 awful articles for a clueless client. Awful writing can be sold at any price point.

Your writing is not awful, but it needs some work. I'd recommend you read more content marketing blogs and do a couple of free online courses.
Regardless, whether that's a good price depends on where you live. Where I'm from, $2 per article is criminally low. In India, apparently, that's a fair price.

I interviewed someone the other month and suggested she send me a couple of samples of her work and give me an idea of her rate.

Samples were awful and she told me her rate was $20 per 1k words.
When I laughed, she told me she has a client pays her double that.

You'll always get people who overpay for content, as they're too lazy to look around.

$2 per article isn't a good rate though OP.

Thanks for the feedback, i wish i could find sources to get such writing jobs. i am only asking for $3/700-1000 words but things are getting harder. I've joined multiple freelance sites but no luck.

Am new to the online world, so i am working on my writing skills as well because i realize content is important when it comes to online marketing.

Can you please share online sources to get such writing jobs on demand, like the source you find the writer you're talking about?

I am not really looking for $20/1k words, $3-$5/1k words would just do fine for me based on my location, provided i get enough work to keep me busy.

Dont write it. Don't write unless you are getting at least $3-$5 per article of 500 words. You can write only a finite amount each day! Why waste on low paying clients?

The sample is OK, but $2 for an hour, doesn't sound worth it. There's an abundance of cheap content, so if you charge low, you're going to attract cheap clients. I think you could get away with $10.

Also, you might want to work on your writing a bit. Make it exciting and have personality. It's fine, but read more like a college essay you're trying to get finished before your deadline.

If this quote is your text then your writing is practically native like, no quality issues that I can see.
 
I recently wrote an article as a graphic designer in this niche. The length was 1500 words and I got paid 200€ on invoice :) + Also got ******** backlink from 85 DA authoritative domain. Now I pitched them on more articles and I'm working on them right now.

I don't want to brag, I just want to say everything is possible :)
btw. It was my first article I got paid for so I'm pretty happy.
 
I'm probably going off point a little bit but going forward, I think it is going to be harder for non-native writers to make money in this environment. Google is demanding high-quality information now.
That said, and to answer the question more directly, your client is trying to take advantage of you. Those rates are not adequate even for the non-native writing marketplace.
 
just tell him that you will work for no less than $3 per article.

As a freelancer, you´re not obligated to take any job if you´re uncomfortable with the conditions.

If he gave you a positive review from the previous job there aren´t any reasons why this guy will now offer you less money than the previous job.

Did he have any complaints on delivery? Did he request any revisions? Adjustments? Did he give you a non-5-star rating?

If you answer "NO" to all the above questions, then F*****G.

Stick your ground, demand what YOU believe your work is worth and move on.

If he insists on the $2 fee then tell him you will do it but for a 500-word article NOT 700.

You´re pretty much earning the same as per 100 words.

Even i have this question running in my head, "how do i network with clients that my writing and pay me a fair rate?

First thing that is coming to my head is to simply create an outstanding portfolio with your best work. Do some research and be easily reached on Google as well.. Then I would just write short e-mail to blogs, agencies and so on.. then it's only numbers game. If you send 600 personalized e-mails ( 20 every day) throughout a month, I'm sure that you will close at least 1-2 clients that will pay you reasonable price for your services. It's time-consuming.. but if you are having no clients then you have nothing else to do..

It depends on your location and quality of authorship.

However, $3 "per 700-word article" is a horrible rate, especially non-spun, hand-written content.

$3 would only get me fifty words into the content.
 
That's way too low.
5$/500 words is still a fair price if you are just getting started.
 
Mate I have purchase content from many venues and I can tell you that $2 for 700 words is way low. In my opinion your writing is not bad and does not deserve a $2 rate, I think that you should charge at least $5.

However, if you still would like to keep the client, politely decline his offer and let him know that you are already giving him a very special rate, and if he insists take Rofer Marquez's suggestion and reduce the word count to 500.
