Is Hostgator fine for a complete newbie?

I made my blog just over a month ago and feel I want to buy a domain name and become self-hosted.

I have no experience of Internet Marketing or which are the best deals.

I was recommended a website on how to set up a blog by a friend. It's called 'BloggingCaseStudy'.

The guy on there recommends 'namecheap' for domain names, and for self hosting he recommends 'hostgator'.

I was considering getting the basic package.

'1 single domain'
'Unlimited Bandwth and Disk space'
'Shared SSL Certificate'

What do you think? Or are there better ones to go with for a newbie?

Yep, Hostgator is very good, one of the cheapest with great support. I personally use namecheap hosting because I prefer my domains and hosting to be handled by the same company, but thats my own preference.
 
Hostgator + namecheap combo is perfect for what you want. There's even a 1 cent (first month) coupon floating around for Hostgator - google for the 'official' one.
 
yup HG has great support for noobs to experts
 
Well , i left hostgator, i didnt liked them , you could use www.whlogic.com , pretty low prices, if you are noob, then you could save some cash
 
Hostgator is fine but costly. There are many reliable $1 web hosts out there, you can try one of them
 
If you are planning to use Hostgator for a long while, it's better to use 25% off instead of just the first month discount. Hostgator is a good and reliable host. I usually register my domain at godaddy since they often have $1 .com domain name offer, then before the 1 year is up (usually just after few months), I will transfer it over to namecheap because they offer free privacy protection for your domain and the price is good as well.

HostGator is very good, but they are a cooperate. If I was a newbie, I would look for smaller companies with friendly, down to earth staff members that can personally help you out.
 
Hostgator is good for anyone trying to do anything except email marketing. Use an offshore hosting company for that. Otherwise Hostgator is the hosting company to use.

I will add Prosper202 to that. It isn't working with Hostgator. That's the reason I moved to Hawkhost. Nice guys!

Hostgator was the first hosting service I ever used and I keep using them. Never changed them.

I guess that I was lucky as a noob to choose such a good hosting. Support is good too
 
Thier aff program is a complete scam and every time I sign up they do fraud checks. I use media template.
 
The support is really useful. Had some issues and they always helped me out
 
Yep thats perfectly fine, its what I started with as well. Then later on as you get more sites you can upgrade your plan with them and just pay the difference. Go for it champ!
 
Yes Hostgator is great for what you are doing. If you're blogging, you're probably trying to rank in Search Engines so go with a bigger company like HG (or Bluehost-Never used them but a friend does, he pays yearly) which you can pay monthly. You can always upgrade for an extra dollar a month if you want to host more sites on the account.

The best thing about Hostgator is their support is superior. They have 24/7 which you can IM or call them. I had problem with my laptop picking up virus, my site got labeled as an attack site and they went in and had it handled within the day for me then gave me tutorial how to clean my computer out before I changed passwords. The support is great for noobs or not so tech savvy people.

Works just fine for me for facebook without any other requirements. If you're using it for adwords/adcenter ppc you just need to send in a support ticket to get them to whitelist a couple of mod_security rules. They'll know which ones
