Is having a ".com" url so important ?

I think 90% of the domains out there, those that have been around for more than 5 years straight, are all .coms , thus, if you are building a brand out of a domain, go for the .com to avoid confusing your visitors - yes, most of the time we refer to a website by the .com only.
But if you are solely channeling/funneling traffic from the search engine, then it is not necessarily need to be a .com - an emd would be good, a .com emd would be a bonus, but the real ranking power now lies within country level TLD EMD.

If I can - I always go for .com. If not, .org, .net are decent alternatives too. Nowadays, many dropshippers started using .co and .io and they seem to be doing fine(let's remember that you don't need much SEO for dropshipping though).

No, it is not important at all, not for SEO and not even for branding. I can guarantee you that people say: .com is better never tested it in their lives, i did, i have changed about 12/15 sites from .info/.org./.net to .com. you know what improved? Absolutely nothing.

There was no difference in rankings or leads, so people who say .com is better say that because they have read it somewhere, probably some dumb blog like MoZ or searchengineland, but i know for a fact they never tested it, not even once.

Social media LOVES catchy "vanity" domains(or hacked names if you prefer).

And such.

This! I've found that most people don't really care in todays world that a site is a .com or not but using a "hacked" domain means it's more memorable for people, even more so if you're focusing on social media for advertising.

There are also other extensions available. But majority of people got used to. Com domains. So, better to make use of all the options to make the best out of your business

Well the prioriry is .com first to be honest, i dont want my audience to remember my TLD as anything else but a .com because when someone think of the internet it is still dot coms. rest is all about building your brand and i wont deny that.

Besides the usual customer trust in .com it's not worth it. You can easily go for .net/.org or any other .tech TLD you want for SEO purposes.

Not at all. TLD doesn't matters. Why some TLD more popular than the others? Just because of gregarious people buying domains.
Just think about - how easy to rank your website - just choose a proper TLD for your website and you're 1st in Google!
P.S. Visitors also doesn't really care about TLD - it is one more myth. The most of people never look at url bar in their browsers :)

IMO as long as your domain is keyword rich and relevant it will be ok.

No, its not important, but you site must have good targeted traffic, content , low bounce rate and other google 100+ ranking factors signal, then no need .com

According to my experience i always promote .com domain beascuse .com easy to rank factors but some time i got .info .net and .org

From my experience a tld can have an impact only if you are targeting a specific country for traffic, ie if you want primarily to rank high in the uk and are optimising for uk market then a .co.uk or .uk will work better in conjunction with the GWT country specified. If you are trying for global traffic increases as others haven mentioned a .net, .com extension wont make much if any difference, it is the keyword(s) of the domain name itself which is far more important.

If you are looking for long term business, then Find out unique brand name and go for .Com
People tend to forget extension and may land to the .Com domain every now and then and you will lose your traffic partially. Ex- Bing, uber, ola etc. Just create any unique brand. Doesnt matter if it makes sense or not.

If you run an online store, the .com domain will give you a lot. If only you have the opportunity to get one - it's worth it.

I think an SSL certificate is way more important regarding customer perceived trust..

You're right. Since we introduced SSL, many people have paid attention to this.

It is nice to have a .com, however it is not a must.
