Is Google Trends still effective in this year?

I have heard from someone (a good marketer, forgot his name) that Google trends is not effective any longer.
I used this sometimes last year but have been busy in other activities and got lost.

What is your opinion?

The effectiveness depends on how quickly and strategically you use it, and make it go to the top of SERPs, or nowadays to the most F'cBookers and others like them .

It helped me to promote cpa products then. I'll setup some trends again and test it

They are still useful and will continue to do so as long as they exist. But as always, it depends how you use them.

It is beneficial until now since they use it in google algorithm update.

I've found it pretty accurate when using it for Amazon products. I have a seasoned product that has more or less perfectly followed their trend.

It could still work but it depends how you do it and what's your objective.

For example most of my LinkedIn pulse post get hundreds of views, very few even go to a thousand. But the one I did about Reddit last week got more than 30k views, got followers on my profile etc. So I would say jumping on trending topics still could work.

You need to understand that, why google actually opened Google Trends. It's an issue for showing trends to promoting themselves. So Still, its working and it will be... Otherwise, how they will justify their top query. That's the logic.
