Google is too powerful. I say that because in reality, they control the internet. They set the rules, and they can destroy business, marketers, and simply delete videos on youtube they deem "not suitable."

When google created the new code rel nofollow, literally hundreds of thousands of people were losing money. Yet at the same time, hundreds of thousands were making money. Why? If you are familiar with SEO, you understand how to rank high in google. However, that simple change with no follow has caused several site owners to drop down like 5-20 ranks.

Do you think this is fair? I believe google is too powerful and I'm confident someone could sue them for "unfair competition," just like how other video software makers sued Microsoft for unfairness and won -

    http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2003-12-19-realnetworks_x.htm

So here is something to try, I'm sure you guys know google owns youtube. make a "how to make money online" video on youtube and watch it get deleted after being flagged once. Now make a "how to make money using google ad sense" video and watch as it stays on youtube forever no matter how many flags you get. BULL SHI*T! They mark their creations of making money online as legit but any thing else is considered spam, scam and deceitful content.

What do you guys think? Does this sound like I'm wining and I should just shut up? Or do I make a good point? I just want to know how the majority feels.

As far as YouTube goes, as a User I look for any excuse to get away from them. I hate their videos, with the ads and whatnot. And when you are posting a video, you don't care if it's playing from YouTube. All you care about is that it plays.

So, my dissatisfaction with YouTube indicates to me that there are others that feel the same way and would be glad to use another alternative, as long as it works, is reliable and is better than YouTube. I think there is an opportunity for someone else to come along and take a piece of YouTube's market. And I think eventually someone is going to come along and do just that. Maybe you.

Well, life isn't fair and you have to deal with it! You should see and hear me when I lost my ad-sense account that was pure WH, then there was another and another...
I'm alive and my main site doesn't rely on g traffic and I'm ok, so yes, there is life after g, so get over it.

Either don't rely on it or use it to your advantage and treat it as a challenge - you get points for scoring on g, believe me, you will feel better.

We live in a world full of crap and if we took it all to ourselves we would be dead - you have to develop a way to distance yourself from all the bad news and crooked politicians and greedy banks and lawyers and insurance companies, and....add your own dislikes and crooks. Find a way to see something positive in every situations and your life will be easier.

It's not jut some "new age" garbage, try it and you will see the difference!

That where I believe you are wrong. But I know I would get responses like this.

Reason being is because no matter what, if you are trying to do anything online, weather you are using social networks, blogs, videos, etc, what decides who sees your stuff is google and how you rank it.

And because google likes to make "updates," you are forced to adapt to those updates.

Lets say you use a service that has nothing to do with google such as daily motions. Guess what, it won't be shown on google unless you promote it well.

Anything that comes up internet wise, google holds the cards.

edit - yes there are other ways to promote besides google but because the internet is used by... almost everyone, most people are going to be forced to use it.

Yes some people use bing and... yahoo search engine (and I think there were more lol), but google is used by 85% of the world according to statistics.

I read a little bit of the article (and will continue reading). But yea, thats what I mean by google is too powerful. They do control the "digital world'

anyone who is trying to start a small business MUST promote useing google to succeed cause nothing else is going to cut it.

If someone, for example, is trying to buy a new phone (and it can be anything, not just a phone), the first thing anyone does is google something along the lines about phone reviews, etc

No one uses the library or hardly anyone uses magazines to find what they are looking for.

anyway, bout to finish up that article.

I don't know that much about this particular industry, and it seems English is a second language for you. I think the word you want to use is "monopoly" rather than the phrase "too powerful".

They are handing out money. It's their money, they can give it to who they want, how they want & when they want. Or not.

And if you don't like it, you can go to the alternative. Your point seems to be that there isn't one. I don't know if this is true or not. My suggestion earlier is that, if you feel this way, others do too. Maybe there are enough dissatisfied people that you can start the alternative, and take a share of the market away from Google. Video hosting cannot be that difficult, and you could start-out small and slow, perhaps doing video like photobucket does digital images. They also provide very poor service and I would like to find an alternative to them as well.

Eventually, monopolies fail because they become fat, ineffiecient and corrupt. It may take a while, but eventually they fail. Providing an attractive alternative can accelerate that failure.

    Edit:
Here's a perfect example. "YouTube has disabled embedding by request", so you go to YouTube's site to watch the video, and they run a commercial first. I don't watch YouTube commercials. Ever. I did it once, and I'll never sit through another one ever again. I didn't watch either of the YouTube videos, because YouTube demanded I watch a commercial first. When you post videos like that, you will lose a viewer like me every single time. If there were a free service available that did not have the restrictions that YouTube has, you could have posted a link to a video from there, and I would have watched those. I represent a percentage of the population that refuses to deal with the monopoly, and I am just waiting for the alternative to present itself. Looking forward to it, in fact.

How many industries are there where you have a pre-existing customer base, that are standing around just waiting for you to go into business so they can be your customers, because they absolutely refuse to do business with anyone else?

Monopoly is the word I'm looking for. Sad, but English is my first language and I was never good at it.

But yea, you broke it down well. My point was indeed that there is no alternative.

But I guess I should rephrase that. There are alternatives, but there aren't any that would be as effective. As an example, you can use direct mail marketing to promote something instead of google. However, if your competitor uses google, who is going to win here (considering they are both pro at what they do).

You can use facebook to promote, but only thanks to programs like friend adder pro, wall posters.... or rather, I should say thanks to the many programmers out there, we can now promote on facebook in a way that wasn't originally intended from the creaters.

Of course, if you have money, you can always just advertise on the site but that is rather costly for most people. Money is power as well. If you got money, you can just advertise on google, facebook, youtube, etc.

but yea, I agree with everything you said.

I no longer believe so. But thats my opinion.

Well I would totally agree with you Xellon. You know the scary thing about it is they are starting to do like Walmart and Monsanto except with media/information. Yeah, it is not good at all for one corporation to control 85% of the market in the world in anything. Just like Monsanto controlling 95% of the soybean market in the world. Which is completely Genetically Modified.

    Good post OP.

Yes, you are 100% right about google. Yes, we all have the power of choice, but google is getting to big for their britches.

They are continually modifying their precious algo and destroying some sites that should not get affected.

Recently they added gambling ads to their content network. I bet they add adult ads within a few years. They are 100% for profit, which is not bad, but they plan on making all the online money. Which will leave less for the rest of us.

The only "pure" search engine would be one that does not focus on making money. Look at google, the top fold of every search are sponsored results. Now they are adding sponsored results to google maps.

I get sick of being sold. I wish a pure search engine would come along and dethrone google.

if you don't like it, don't use... obvious, ain't it?

You can use Bing and other website for videos.
They are in a business to make money, so they will do whatever it takes to be the top dog.

And I have no issues with your opinion. But did you bother reading every post here?

meh, either way, if your opinion is still the same then that is fine too. My main reason for starting this tread is to see what the majority thought.
