Each year, Google changes its search algorithm around 500–600 times. While most of these changes are minor, Google occasionally rolls out a "major" algorithmic update (such as Google Panda and Google Penguin) that affects search results in significant ways.
Everyone’s rankings have been fluctuating lately. More to the point, I remember having similar discussions at the beginning of the year. So it could be that they’ve been testing out new features all this time.
Google has messed up with the 12th of March update big time. There are fluctuations in the SERP's and there is literally no logic about them. I have checked a certain keyword for a client almost every day. And the 1st to 3rd places have changed almost daily. The rumors are they're trying to roll back the March update but they're unsuccessful. There was a big change in Algoroo on the 22nd of April but I really don't think it did something.
