Spying is good, but most of the people doing this are also the main strategy. It's a smart idea but doesn't always.

Yes it's good but everything depends on the quality . many of sites have spammy links so it's better to not unclude them.the best way is hire a SEO VA to do this for you (it does not cost much tho)

Yup, if you're on a tight budget this is a good way to DIY your link building. From my experience, it's much better than buying links blindly on Fiverr.

I usually find the website on the first page of the keywords I want, and use ahrefs to find their external links. This is a way to increase your own free external links, all you need is your time
