Is Back linking still effective after the Panda, Penguin and Zebra updates?

So is Backlinking still effective for Google or Youtube Seo or not anymore
after the major updates?

I wan't to know if it's still worth it to do backlinks.

it will always be.
i think that you should focus more on quality rather than quantity.
i have websites with 20 backlinks that rank higher than a lot of sites with 20,000 backlinks.

Backlinks will always be important. The only thing that will change this is another search engine that doesn't use backlinks in its algo. I think it isn't here yet.

just focus on building good tier1s..
 
no backlinking is not important anymore, not even keywords...not even seo is important anymore...nothing is :)

man, think of it this way....Google searches for relevant quality results.
You want to rank high, then make your site a relevant quality resource.

I heard about the Zibra update just today. They had it the same time with the donkey update.
 
Cause they still count, there still the main ranking factor and will be for some time. Zebra? No such thing by the way.
 
Yes they do count, as long as you build quality backlinks and avoid backlinks from low ranking spammy websites.
 
Yes, it will always be, if you hear different, you were probably on another popular forum which somehow allows people to say these things without even the members flaming them.
 
because the haven't a clue I read the other day on "another popular forum" someone saying there going to build quality content without backlinks and google will rank it, that's what's pandas about. no wonder the crappy ebooks sell well.

Why wouldn't it be?
Many were not hit by panda/penguin, but many were, why? Low quality backlinks, spun content etc.
You should focus on quality, unique content, etc.

Remember, Quality BEATS Quantity, 5 quality backlinks are better than 200 low quality backlinks.
