Is Back linking still effective after the Panda, Penguin and Zebra updates?

So is Backlinking still effective for Google or Youtube Seo or not anymore
after the major updates?

I wan't to know if it's still worth it to do backlinks.

it will always be.
i think that you should focus more on quality rather than quantity.
i have websites with 20 backlinks that rank higher than a lot of sites with 20,000 backlinks.

Backlinks will always be important. The only thing that will change this is another search engine that doesn't use backlinks in its algo. I think it isn't here yet.

man, think of it this way....Google searches for relevant quality results.
You want to rank high, then make your site a relevant quality resource.

Yes they do count, as long as you build quality backlinks and avoid backlinks from low ranking spammy websites.

Why wouldn't it be?
Many were not hit by panda/penguin, but many were, why? Low quality backlinks, spun content etc.
You should focus on quality, unique content, etc.

Remember, Quality BEATS Quantity, 5 quality backlinks are better than 200 low quality backlinks.
