Is an EMD still recommended for a new website?

Hello pals, I started a site with an EMD a week before the EMD update. the nich is competitive with 8k monthly search. Before the EMD update, 4 EMD where on the first page of google. (2 .com, .org and .net) the second .com has hyphens (-).
After the EMD update, only one of the EDM domains survived and still in page 1 #6. (the EMD with hyphen -)
MY site is also an EMD with hyphen (-) .
I'm really confuse now. should I continue with my plans of using the EMD or I should register another domain that is not EMD and do a 301 redirect from this EMD. Please you suggestions and Idea are highly appreciated.

According to Google the EMD update only took away the ranking boost websites got from having an EMD. Supposedly all domains are now the same whether they are EMD or not.

So, it doesn't matter now. Google won't punish you if you have an EMD nor will they give you any favor.
 
I don't believe all that EMD hype. I have a couple EMD's that have not been affected. I think it is more about buyer words in the EMD.

I don't believe that all sites are treated equal though. The EMD's i talk about ran right up to position 3 & 5 respectively. With out any promotion. One did it with no content. I put one article on it and 3 months later number 1! (with the help of promotions though...). So don't believe everything that you hear. Test on your own.
 
I think saying all the ranking is gone is overrated. After all, if the domain has the word 'acne' in it, then google figures it is acne related- and gives it some point for that word. So the same works for EMD, so I would say the effect has been reduced not eliminated.
 
EMD is only good for yahoo and bing. If you think you gonna need their traffic go with EMD
and one more thing - google hasn't penilised even one of my webstes which use url stuffing and they are ranking pretty great!

What kind of promotions did you use if you don't mind me asking?
 
what maniac ever spread the rumor that an EMD is bad for a site???
 
Mate dont give up on your stuff just yet.
EMD update was designed to simply remove a majority of the benefit that did exist at one time for an EMD domain. Or atleast a majority of the benefit.

You likely just need more quality links, and maybe even content to see your rankings jump back.
 
keep writing content that is useful and high quality. build better backlinks consistently and you should see improvement
 
My best emd got hit finally and now the sites that come up under my term are barely even related to what the user is searching for.

I went from #2 TO PAGE 2 and am trying to move my way back up.

Not entirely sure that emds aren't being penalized at least a little bit.

Thanks pals! I'l stick to my plan of using the EMD and build quality backlinks. My content are high quality and 100% unique.

I second this: Proweb has said it well. Time to create new EMDs and do not put your all eggs in EMDs. Create some authority sites as well. I have ranked EMD within 10 days straight to first page. Good luck to you all.
 
If you keep using quality content, EMD's are still good.
 
Can I ask what search engine you're trying to rank OP?

I only ask because I've seen EMDs get effected in US and UK (albeit, only the spammier ones), whereas in Australia, I swear I think EMDs have actually been boosted.

This dude is 100% right and i can't add more to what he said...

Choosing an EDM will not get you on top of the SERP fast anymore, it's just like ranking a non EDM now
and neither will it get penalized unless you do what would ordinarily have gotten you penalized..

In the nutshell, all the EDMs that survived the update where domains with clean back link portfolio...
 
EMD update just basically took away the advantage of Exact domain matches, it won't affect your websites negatively though.
 
I have a couple EMD domains that are parked. I bought them and parked them, and then I noticed that most of them were ranking on the first page of google with ZERO backlinks and no seo work done on them. They had no previous owners and one of the keywords gets 2000 monthly searches.

So I think EMD's can still be good.
