I had this idea that the people who are going to make a ton of people with the Facebook IPO are all of the people who are selling tons of stock in Facebook.
I imagine that Zuckerberg and the other people who have been running (and owning) facebook since it's inception have a better view of the company than me. And if they want to sell their shares. I don't really want to buy them.
basically, because facebook sucks on mobile phones and that's where I do most of my "social computing".
That being said, I started traveling around the world recently and all of these asians are fascinated with my Iphone and Macbook Air (wasn't an APple junkie, just bought an Iphone as a bandwagon thing, and the Air for travel).
So on Monday I bought 20 shares of Apple at 530... Then Apple closed at 562 or something. And I made a 5.5% return (unrealized gains as I'm not selling anytime soon). but this was the first time i've ever invested in a stock. So yeah... I thought maybe I should start a hedge fund or something to let the commoners take advantage of my investing genius.
Compared to Facebook though, Apple is a no brainer. Facebook doesn't have any fiscal policy that's clear.
And the nerve of a $104bn valuation with less than $1bn in profit last year is just insulting to the market. And I think enough people realized it in time. Compared to Apples 45 billion gross profit and 500billion market cap... It just looks like a better company overall to me. And I think a lot of people are getting sick of Facebook. It's become more of a self indulgence than anything valuable. Buying instagram was a bad move, that might turn out to be a great move.
All in all, I wish all my Facebook friends were on Google Plus. But at the same time, I'm glad their not

.
Moral of the story. Don't take investing advice from Facebook statuses.
