I dissagree with a LOT of you, Yahoo NEVER EVER reached a worth of 95 billion. Matter of fact, very few dot coms have. I think its a solid investment. In 10 years , i see Facebook still going strong and a great place to advertise. Geolocation advertisements is genius. As well as hitting particular age groups of certain types of people, you can almost PINPOINT who you want to advertise to. Good luck OP, but i think its a solid investment.
Oh and yes - you guys who are saying that nobody needs FB are all correct, but there are still millions upon millions of users on it everyday even though they don't need it. Its like an addiction and they cant stop using it![]()
for one, i dont think something will replace FB because to many old people (referring to my own family) on this thing. it was a stretch getting them on there and they are not looking for the next big thing. HERE IS SOMETHING FUNNY, i posted on FB the day before the IPO went live and i said that i thought FB would be the PERFECT short sale stock for after the first day. guess what, HOURS LATER my account had been removed. they refuse to give it back lol. EFF FACEBOOK!! it was 100% clean, NOTHING shady. just posted that i wanted to short them and POOF they removed me. no free speach there!
But, you know, It wouldn't be a horrible idea to throw some change at the stock just in case it does pull a Google/Apple. Who knows?
But really, we dont need FB. We need google but not FB...
It may go the way of myspace but take a little longer.
There's no need for facebook like there is Google. Unless they start an adsense program for facebook users, I think they will not ever make it back up.
1. Mark Zuckerberg is a genius
2. They have some of the most talented and bright minds in the world working at Facebook
3. They have several untapped markets - mobile, asian markets, etc.
4. People invest their entire life into Facebook with photos, memories, etc.
People were addicted to Myspace like glue before Facebook popped up.. how do you know the same thing wont happen to Facebook?
There will always be the next best thing in social networking.
This is just my opinion and has nothing to do with stocks...
There is no comparison between FB and My Space. Well they are both social networks but that's about it. People did not invest their entire lives into MySpace - let me give you an example...
I know people who have years and years of photo galleries, posts, replies, likes etc. These are all memories. It s like having a virtual photo album online and its pretty much there forever. There are also services like Photobucket that will do things like this, but if I really want to get to know someone, I can look through their FB page and learn so much about them - who they are related to, what are their interests, their experiences, are they married, where they work, and the list goes on. This is what has created such a strong demand for FB. Its like making an investment, once I have 5 years on images uploaded in FB all organized with comments and likes, I am not willing to let it go. I know people that try to "quit" FB and they cant do it. As far as I can see in the US, this is not going away. People use it, if you are any successful business, you have a FB fan page and if you have 5000 fans on your FB fan page, you aren't shutting that down no matter what FB does. It is too integrated, its not going anywhere.
whats your thoughts on Groupon? i like their business and they took a big hit having to rerelease earning numbers
Groupon's business model is shitty they often f**k over the business that run groupons and themselves. I think their close to irrelevant at this point.
I also bought FB stock and I got it at 38.01 per share. It has now fallen but i am not worried about it. Facebook just bought a new mobile gifting company the same day their IPO was released. They know that their money and new revenue streams will come through mobile marketing / development. Most of Facebook's users are checking and interacting through their mobile devices. This is a market that Facebook has not even begun to tap into.

Do I think the stock was overvalued at IPO?, yes that is possible. When you have 900M followers, have penetrated half of the earth's internet users - even the lamest of marketing ideas and sales can help you become filthy rich and make insane profits. Then their stock will soar!
I believe in FB!
Papa stock market only believes in earnings. If FB cannot increase earnings to reduce their currently overvalued P/E it will get owned by the market.
Money talks not memories, you sound like those people who thought AAPL will keep going up after it went above 600.
