Inventions stop... NOW!

I don't believe we have to stop ourselves from thinking of these inventions just because there are others who also think of them. Somehow along the way, out of our creative ideas, there is one that can make us popular/rich/respectable if only we pursued it right. It's not a matter of running out of ideas since thousands of opportunities rise up everyday because of the fact that we are slowly changing how we see things, our needs as well as our habits in order to do well in this world. Don't think about it too much and simply follow what you believe that will benefit others and not what can make your rich.

As we become more complacent with the technology and amenities we now have, a new need will be discovered, a provision invented, and an enhancement for that. It is cyclical.

The op's logic is similar to that of the Amish; they gave up on new technology in the 1800's. Just kidding op, I am an optimistic person and feel that there will always be room for new ideas and improvement.

It all depends on how you want to look at it.

Electricity has been around for years, but if someone can do it without wires then I will sure be happy to be calling that a brand new invention.

Look at all of the new medicines that have come out to prevent different diseases over the last decade, we can't rule those out as inventions just because someone else found a cure to other diseases such as scurvy 100 years ago.

Having said that, I am awaiting the Hoverboard.

New inventions no longer need to provide for our necessities, so they provide for our comfort and entertainment. e.g. Tupac hologram

Believe there so much that needs to get invented. I'm still waiting for my flying car...

That's what some people believed before there was television, cars etc. I think there is billions of things left to invent.

Next time we heard that phrase from science people, after the foundation of Newtonian physics. Luckily, we had Einstein who didn't think so, and whose theory of relativity boosted a whole set of new inventions. GPS is one example.

However, with all these inventions we still don't know shit about the universe that surrounds us. And to invent you need at least some basic knowledge of the underlying processes. Obviously, we know more than people who invented the wheel, but on the scale of 0-100 I would say that we're stuck somewhere on 20%. So hey, you still have about 80% ahead of you.

"Necessity is the mother of invention".... this used to be true. But with the technology and the mindset of today it should say "invention is the bastard child of laziness!"

Just think of shit that lazy people don't like to do and invent a product to do it for them.

Examples:

• TV remote control... (The pioneer product for the lazy person. Who has time to get their fat ass off the couch to change the channel?)
• The universal remote control... ( Who has time to keep up with 3 different remotes for TV, VCR, and stereo?)
• The Clapper... (Why get off your lazy ass to turn off a light when you can just clap your hands?)
• The Roomba (robot vacuum cleaner)... Self explanatory.

I have seen lots of commercials on TV advertising some crazy shit. My favorite has to be the shoehorn on a stick.

We don't even know enough about our own body, let alone the universe.

Folks, we haven't even scratched the surface. I'm just wondering if I will live long enough to own my own multi-qubit quantum computer. Think of the SB list compilation and spinning I could do with that bad ass!

How wrong was he

I have come to the realization that the profitable "inventions" of our time must have two distinct qualities. Without these, they are destined to never reach the tipping point.

1: It must be completely useless
2: It must have no real value

Point in case; Eyelashes for cars.

I think most peoples problem (at least mine anyways) is that it is very hard to come up with an idea that is both useless and worthless while actually believing that you can sell it. However, these are the ideas that make millions and set trends that last for years. If I would have thought 5 years ago that I could make eyelashes for cars and sell them, nobody would have taken me seriously. In fact I would not have taken myself seriously but look how wrong that would have been.

The moral of the story is that there are many things left to be invented. Those inventions fall into two categories; the things we NEED and the things we WANT. Its much easier to get things we WANT into the market as the competition is not as cut-throat. Large companies (for the most part) control what we NEED and therefor do not like competition for these long-term revenue streams. Ford could give a shit about eyelashes for cars but if you come up with something that threatens their ability to sell calls long term, they will crush you.

Keep thinking, keep inventing and keep selling. Remember the ABC rule of sales ... Always Be Closing. There is money to be made right now and lots of it.

I agree. We don't necessarily need to re invent the wheel. Just innovate it.

Now apply that across the board.

So true! 3 years later there are going to be things we never imagined of!

New things are being invented as we speak...

The beauty of technology is that it can be advanced and that is something you should take into account. If you take a Fibre Optic cable and make a cable that is 100x faster, it is a new invention. Life is all about moving forward. Try not to thing about things that will effect the current as such. You want it to effect the current time but show true signs of being futuristic.
