Internet Marketing: Where to begin?

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and internet marketing in general. The information available here all seems like great material, but it all seems specific to certain techniques or strategies.

What would be the best marketing strategies with which to start for a person new to this process?

I have read about cost-per-action ads, pay-per-download, pay-per-click, and others. They seem to do well in each of their regards; but, where would one go to find the best markets to apply these techniques?

I am really not sure to what niche I would be selling, and that is where I am stuck. So what I am most curious is where to find any information or stats describing the best performing markets or niches to sell.

I do have hosting available to use and have tinkered with WordPress and other CPM templates, so I will probably be using this approach unless there are reasons to avoid this.

I would like to set myself to a moderate goal. Would $10 a day be too far fetched?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I am not sure if this is the right forum to post into with this inquiry, but it seemed the most general for "Making Money".

There is no best marketing strategy, there is only the strategy that works best for you.

I am a newbie too, I started my IM research couple of weeks ago. I recently realized that, I would never find the "best" or "most" or "greatest" way of earning money until I stop looking for it and start acting for it.

Jump in the mud, get your hands dirty instead of posting this kind of thread. Start any method that looks easy for you, don't chase the "best" because you will never find that this way.

start by reading as much information here as possible
be open minded
write things down
let the things become second nature, stop being afraid but don't become reckless
never expect instant results without X - XX hours of work

I'll definitely tell you where NOT to begin, and that would be do not post a thread like "please help me! I beg you! I need someone to hold my hand and teach me to make money."

You have everything you need on this forum. There are even plenty of methods that don't require even $1 start up capital. Browse them, pick one, twist it and implement. Then rinse and repeat.

This seems what I need to do. No better way to learn than to get dirty. I know finding the "best" method is subjective naturally. This is why I was trying to find what information people use when beginning their marketing campaigns. Good luck on yours.

I understand that it takes a lot of time invested for any sort of result. A lot of the threads I have read here place the reminder to never give up and to keep a positive attitude.

healzer, would you mind explaining about having an open mind? Would this mean to use any and every strategy available to be profitable? Thanks for your comments.

GiorgioB, I appreciate your sentiment. It doesn't really benefit anyone but myself to post a thread like this, and to my embarrassment, I saw "The Niche Guide" thread after I posted; however, I don't think anything that I expressed was asking anyone to "hold my hand" to help me make money nor was I begging. As I stated, this only benefits myself. I was just asking for directions that could point me in the right direction.

I think the purpose about my post was to actually find where to plant my feet. It's hard to walk when one can't stand. I will take your suggestion about finding a method and "twisting" it to the best of my ability; so I will ask: could any affiliate or advertising program work through unconventional means?

It seems the best way that I can get into understanding the IM world is to just buckle down and get to work. I just didn't want to be hammering blind.

A good start would be to assess what your budget is. I always recommend learning free methods first so that you don't get discouraged when you lose a lot of money on paid advertising (so easy to). Learn the nitty gritty work of free marketing and then learn conversion rate optimization.

Keep on testing and you'll keep on improving. Then you'll start to find out what other arenas of IM you can hit

When you read a method, you get a feeling that this can be doable... at that moment, keep everything aside and note the method down. Think about it, get your interest level high, and then try it out!

Only this way, you'd take prompt actions, know if the method works or not, also know if you should try it out differently if it seems promising but isn't working initially, also know whether you need to learn more, or back out of it.

Only then, you would already be initiated in an online/offline business that's making money for lot others!

If you have got the feeling of trying out a method, but you still shove it aside and move on to another method and then to yet another..., then you've already lost a great opportunity of taking a good action.

So, get interested, and take appropriate action -- soon!

I am also starting in Internet marketing, I came to this site a couple weeks ago, I lurked for a while before even signing up.

I'm starting to try out some of the methods, only to find that it is very easy to fail at doing this, but I find it very exciting and interesting, that's why I'm willing to keep on trying.

So I guess that that is the best way to learn, by trial and error, and reading tons of material from this site.

I will tell you where not to start in my opinion, anywhere which is well known for not paying or having off or banning, ie: paypal, ebay, adsense.......ect.

Start by first thinknig about what you want to do (and can do) right now in the IM world. Then you should come back here and post some questions about what you figured out you wanted to do, market people's products or your own.

don't think that a certain method or business is going to work, or will take a long time or will be quick cash
think out of the box: this doesn't mean you can't use methods posted here - but don't go where others are going as well - try methods which no one does anymore
