Everyone’s chasing backlinks, but internal links are your own authority network.
Done right, they push crawlers deeper into your site and bring buried pages to light.

Internal linking helps distribute link juice, define structure, and improve discoverability without spending a dime.
I’ve tested this: after re-linking old posts to newer ones, crawl frequency jumped within a week.

You don’t need to go overboard, just make sure every page connects logically to another relevant one.
Think of it like creating a mini web inside your site.

Anyone here tried automating parts of it or prefer manual linking for better relevance?

Internal links is a very common practice with on-site SEO... most that do SEO are well versed there.

Automating it is almost never a good idea as that creates a footprint that Google sees.

I know there are WP plugins that do that for you, but Google sees that.

It takes very little time to do it manually and that really is the best way to do that and to not do it manually indicates a certain level of laziness.
 
Totally agree! Internal linking quietly boosts SEO by improving crawl paths and spreading link equity across pages.

Can't agree less. Using a plugin for internal linking only helps users, not SEO.

I just did manual interlinking, and boom, traffic went up.

I think you misread my post, or I was not clear.

Manual interlinking is significantly better than the automated processes/plugin in.
 
I prefer a hybrid approach use tools to find link opportunities, but add links manually for context and intent. Automation speeds up discovery, manual keeps it relevant and powerful.
 
Manual is always best! No tool can match the relevance and context a human adds when linking pages strategically.
 
Definitely it is the best to do on page that too manually. But these days we see threads telling importance of On page are showing up more every other week. If you are web dev, internal linking is the most basic practice considering i myself design websites and i have worked with web devs too. I haven't seen a single one of them forget internal linking.

Or am i missing something here regarding internal linking that i don't know about?

so even old pages can start ranking again.

Internal linking should be baked into the site design from the initial stages. I've always tried to keep to the rule that every page should be accessible in a maximum of 3 clicks from the homepage (or whatever hub is the most trafficked/backlinked), and that every page on a site should be linked to from multiple others. Breadcrumb and related posts systems handle a lot of this for you.
