Just figured I'd share an interesting finding with everyone...

A few months ago I purchased a .info domain to spin up a small niche authority site. My expectation is I'd be able to sell some ad spots on it at some point in the future. I've got about 20 totally unique articles that are around 1000 characters long so far.

    - For each site article, I post a corresponding UAW article with links to that article and the home page. (Spun, of course)
    - I don't ping links
    - I haven't built any other site links
    - UAW reports 500-700 posts for a given article

When I look for my pages in the serps, here is what I've found for a typical (really) long tail word.

    - UAW autoblogs of my post have 4-7 spots on page 1 (!)
    - My "authority" site home page shows on page 6
    - My "authority" deep link is nowhere to be found

So one or more of the following is probably true:
    - .info domains are penalized
    - new sites are penalized (so my serps should improve over time and they haven't in the past two months)
    - small sites are penalized (and adding autoblogging would help site size)

So here's another set of data points for everyone in their plans. I figure I'll play around with this site over time to see what ends up happening.

i think its .info names because they are so cheap and so many people use them for spammy sites.

All of the page 1 autoblog hits for a term are for .coms. Page rank is NA for the ones I looked at too.

You know, maybe none of them is true. Please follow this new thread and see what he has done with a new .info domain.

Nice thread that started well, lol. My only other thought was that some of the UAW articles ended up in a bad neighborhood which hurts me. Kinda far out there and I'm more inclined to think that all UAW autoblog links are discounted. (Or small sites with no fresh content are dinged)

I'm trying two theories since this site is fresh and the results are clean:
    - I just bookmarked one of the pages on 30 sites
    - I set up an autoblog and will wait to see the results of the bookmarking before kicking it off

This doesn't really match my experience with UAW or .info domains. I would just give it time, and try to get a few links from other sources.

I hear you... But my point is I haven't had time to build anything other than UAW links on this site - and UAW links aren't doing anything for SERPs. For other sites that have a variety of link sources it's ranking.

    Just another data point, anyway...
