Just figured I'd share an interesting finding with everyone...
A few months ago I purchased a .info domain to spin up a small niche authority site. My expectation is I'd be able to sell some ad spots on it at some point in the future. I've got about 20 totally unique articles that are around 1000 characters long so far.
- For each site article, I post a corresponding UAW article with links to that article and the home page. (Spun, of course)
- I don't ping links
- I haven't built any other site links
- UAW reports 500-700 posts for a given article
When I look for my pages in the serps, here is what I've found for a typical (really) long tail word.
- UAW autoblogs of my post have 4-7 spots on page 1 (!)
- My "authority" site home page shows on page 6
- My "authority" deep link is nowhere to be found
So one or more of the following is probably true:
- .info domains are penalized
- new sites are penalized (so my serps should improve over time and they haven't in the past two months)
- small sites are penalized (and adding autoblogging would help site size)
So here's another set of data points for everyone in their plans. I figure I'll play around with this site over time to see what ends up happening.
