INSTGRAM HUGE [UPDATE] No more Likes

Instagram is hiding the number of likes on posts in several countries, including Australia and Japan, in order to "remove pressure" on users.

At the moment, Instagram users see a running total of people who have liked a post. In the trial, users will see a user name "and others" below posts.

Instagrammers can still view the number of likes their own posts receive.

There is concern social media platforms can contribute to low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy in young people.

Instagram launched a similar trial in Canada in May and the new test is rolling out in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Brazil, the company told the BBC.

How is this going to effect us? Good? Bad?

A lot of influencers will really feel it lmao

Since I live in Canada it has been like this for what feels like a long time. (Few months? Not sure exactly). I'm sure having some amount of likes will still have a 'clout' value, but just not the same as before.

For example, when using my personal IG, I will tap the like list to get a feel of how many people liked that photo. You can sort of judge by the size of the scroll bar. I'm talking a quick glimpse, no need to meticulously count everything, you just need to scroll so the bar actually appears.

So you can some what evaluate people that way and I'm sure regular IG users already are on a whole. You go to the like list and will immediately see if you need to scroll or not (first level). Then the next level would probably be you could scroll the whole list fairly easy. Lastly you hit a level that is "too high to count".
