As I said before I think all of these metrics will improve during the test (and instagram must do too, otherwise why test?).

If you have a small account, bot hard now because it will be 10x harder if they implement this fully

okay but how you imagine celebrities with their new photos without seeing their likes/views? just imagine it :) maybe you think it's not problem but it's not for you. for them it's really terrible news. trust me likes/views are more important for them than browsing time and other normal posts :)

The account holder can see; just not other people. Even if it is important for other people to see how many likes, what are the celebrities going to do? Stop using instagram? No, they'll just get on with things as before.

I think if likes are hidden people will try to boost even more because now it won't be so obvious. Buying powerlikes or bot likes was never about just simply increasing your numbers. For example from 500 to 1000. It was done in an effort to push your post higher and to the explore page.

If the likes numbers can't be seen, then expect people to go crazy and boost even more. Maybe buying 5000 likes when they normally get 500

Actually, I disagree.

Yes, there are some people that buy likes, and powerlikes, in an effort to get a quick boost and go up in the explore page and all that.

But most people don't buy for that. They buy just in order to boost their likes.

You're right in what you say, but it's a minority, I think.
 
For those saying this would kill Panels... how?

If I own a Pug Page with 50k shit followers and someone wants to buy a promotion, they Will ask for insights, so Id need to buy likes anyways to make it look good...

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this tbh I guess we Will see.
Seems like one can just post shit daily and as soon as a company reaches out you boost all your posts with Panels.

People Will still Use panels to boost engagment to rank in hashtags, perhaps even worse now since no one else can see it so they can go all in with likes ‍♀️

I might just be negative... idk

Agree with it, they really can't do anything :D but maybe if some people will talk about it that many people don't like this news i think there is a little chance to avoid it.
 
the only thing for certain is -- we folks don't know shit until it hits the fan. I hope it will not. so many things can happen but can it help us? -- hell nobody knows that too
 
Likes and comments are the only reason social media exists in a "viral way".

That's like taking ranked out of video games. Those games die instantly.

I am from Canada and its actually nice you can’t see likes anymore - me and my friends talk about it once in a while.

Sometimes I’ll catch myself going to a picture just to see how many likes it got and I am not able to - which saves me some energy being mad that such content gets so many likes.

In the long run, it’ll be easier. It’s like if we had our bank accounts balances visible at all times - of course the ones with less will be jealous. So I think it’ll make Instagram a tiny bit of a better place, just my 2 cents’
