An acquaintance and I had a business idea that we wanted to use targeted marketing on Instagram to draw traffic and I am looking for advice to get started quickly. Wow so original.. I know. But our idea does have a unique twist to it related to fitness. Let me start by saying I have probably not clicked an AD in the past 10 years and rarely use Social media so I have no idea what is cool anymore.

We figured the best way to get the name out there is to start looking legit so we purchased a domain, made an Instagram/Facebook. We added the domain link in the Instagram profile and started following a bunch of people (about 800 in the first 2 days). The first couple posts we made we added the popular hashtags that the big fitness people have and got around 60 followers and around 20-30 likes per post. Then we noticed that we started getting 0 likes on our posts and I read this could be to being shadowbanned on a new account. My acquaintance decided to spend like $50 on some sort of Instagram promote post and we have been getting a few likes here and there but no traffic to the site and no followers. If we are shadowbanned, is there a way to get the account back to normal?

My understanding is you do not see any notifications like "you have been banned" but if you tag your post will not show up in those tag channels.

There's nothing much to be done rather than posting much often & laser targeted hashtags.

I have heard of things ranging from:
  • Making your account private for 2 weeks and unfollowing basically everyone
  • Listing an ad or promoting a post and afterwords complaining that you were not satisfied with the results to Instagram
  • Not logging in for 2 weeks
  • Avoid using PC to post
I am sure there's people with hundreds of accounts that have tested the waters on posts per day, likes, follow/unfollow etc.
