i remeber looking it up awhile ago it seemed like there was a pretty good explanation of how it worked somewhere on google

I used to make it all the time back in the day, I think i just needed like 100 likes per 5 min and thats it, now it's like 1000 likes per 10 min, so your best option is to buy fake likes and tell the person you buy it from to add it as soon as you upload a new pic, and you'll make it to pop page, I did that like a month ago and it worked.

It looks like that they have change dup the pop page a bit. It seems like they split the pictures between ones with really high likes and the other pictures seems to be things related to things you have liked or people you already follow regardless of how many likes you have.
 
Anyone notice anything weird in their popular page/explore feed?

I noticed lately a lot of random photos from random small accounts that will have photos on the popular page. However, the photos may have been uploaded weeks ago and only have a few (less than 100) likes and little to no comments. Anyone else seeing stuff like this?
 
Absolutely. Noticing random people on there with new accounts and very little likes.
 
I believe the "popular" page has now been changed to what is now known as the "Explore" page.
This has been since Facebook bought instagram.

The "Explore" page works differently and now only shows posts related to other posts/users you may have liked/followed.

Getting more popular through the popular page seems to be nothing but a myth now..

The popular page is now primarily based on the people that are already in your network. So if you go out and like a ton of justin bieber's photos, then you are going to be seeing justin bieber on your instagram front page for a while. Honestly, I have a love hate relationship with the whole thing because it limits Instagrammer's access to new content, but at the same time it does build stronger fanbases for marketers.
 
Shout outs are extremely more beneficial than any other form of promotion. You're guaranteeing that your content will be on the feeds of their users. By default that's better than chancing people looking at your post on the popular page.
