Instagram’s testing longer Reels up to 10 minutes now
Looks like they’re going after YouTube and TikTok’s long form crowd. Kind of wild to think Reels might turn into mini YouTube videos soon.
Will longer Reels keep people watching or make Instagram lose its quick, scrollable vibe

Instagram is chasing watch time like YouTube but long Reels may not fit the fast swipe culture.

Yeah, it’s a bold move. Longer Reels could grab YouTube viewers but might kill that fast-scroll flow Instagram’s known for. If they nail balance mixing quick hits with deeper content it could work. Otherwise, it risks losing what made Reels fun in the first place.

They may need to have it where its a separate app like threads and people can put there Phone on landscape mode to watch the longer form content.

Yeah interesting move by Instagram could be great for creators who make detailed content but they’ll need to balance it so the quick scroll feel doesn’t disappear.

Yeah, it’s a bold move — long Reels could boost watch time but risk killing that fast-scroll charm.
It might work for creators with storytelling or tutorial content, not quick trends.
Basically, great for depth, risky for dopamine hits.

Not sure if it’ll work. Instagram’s vibe is all about quick distractions, not full-on video binges. If they push it too far, people might start seeing it as just another YouTube."

I believe this comes as a natural feature. Indeed TikTok and YT came with it first, but since it works why shouldn't Instagram implement it too? I don't find an issue here

Interesting move by Instagram — longer Reels could boost creator content but might hurt the quick-scroll vibe. It’ll work only if they balance long-form with short, engaging clips to keep users hooked

Everything has a lifecycle. I think YouTube will eventually decline, and new ideas will emerge, similar to TikTok.

As much as short form content may cause instagram reels to loose its original vibe and purpose, i feel it wouldn't dispute the fact that people won't care how long a video is in as much as it is engaging and can stimulate them to finish watching

Could be interesting if done right, but I feel Instagram might need a clever way to keep that instant-scroll appeal while still offering longer content.

Instagram’s challenge will be keeping its signature fast-paced feel alive while introducing longer videos striking that balance will determine if users stick around or swipe away.

it depend on present/upload content explanation duration, some content/niche does not require minutes to upload a good reel with approve interactions.
TikTok is live long replica with YouTube short which differ from Instagram reel timing.

Yeah, feels like Insta’s losing its “quick hit” vibe  10-min Reels sound more YouTube than IG  Curious if creators will actually stick with it or jump ship ;)

Longer Reels won't dethrone YT for dedicated long-form content. However, they're perfect for detailed tutorials, storytimes, or complex recipes that need more than 90 seconds. IG strength is still quick, scrollable discovery.

Yes, Instagram is clearly moving toward YouTube-style long-form. It may boost watch time for some audiences, but the fast-scroll, snack able vibe could suffer if creators post only long Reels balance is key.

Yeah, it’s a bold move — could boost watch time for creators with solid storytelling, but risks losing that quick-scroll vibe. Depends if users actually want long content on Instagram.

actually not

It’s an interesting move — longer Reels could attract creators who prefer storytelling or tutorials, but it might hurt the “quick dopamine” vibe Instagram’s known for. People open IG to scroll, not to sit through 10-minute videos. If Instagram wants this to work, they’ll need to balance short and long-form content carefully.
