Yea I agree with you on that. Do you think it would be smart for me to switch over to a business account? Would that kill my engagement? Myshadow ban was lifted today. Lasted two weeks.

I do this, in this order:
https://displaypurposes.com/ -- This site gives you up to thirty, in that famous 5-dots-down-then-30-hashtags format. I clean up with list-- my restaurant clients do NOT want foodgasm in their hashtags.
http://hashtagify.me/hashtag/smm -- gives you more recent trend info on the hashtags you have found, and then info by geography, then common misspellings, etc.
then finally, we use the instagram app to test each hashtag to verify the above info, and to look at estimated number of occurrences.
We generally try to have three to five hashtag "sets" for each client.

LOL, i love how you people do like you are all working for IG and come up with some outrages theories, the fact is that IG is preparing for more ads and your reach will eventually die out.
Just like it did on Facebook, it has nothing to do with tagging or commenting on comments, it is just Marks' bottom line and they are going to be gentle in the beginning, they will use some lube, but in the end we will all get fucked hard in the ass as they will turn down the reach to a small percentage of what it is now..
Unless of course, you pay for it... Just watch and see how your reach will go down to the single digits this year...

The best thing we can do is come up with ideas. Every marketer knows that IG algorithm "tips" are merely best practices and not to be taken as if they're bible commandments. You implement the tactics you feel are worthwhile and see where it goes.
Testing and optimizing is a permanent job in this game.

Just produce better content. Really, it is that f*cking simple. I mean, go out and hire a photographer. Go on location. Buy some staging equipment. Hire a video editor, copywriter, script writer.
If you are not spending at least $800 a month in content production, then resort to doing tricks/hacks to prop up your account. Shit, some of the influencers I know spend close to $4,000 a month on content production. That is why they get $2000 sponsored posts on a 80k account. If that is too expensive, think about the tax write-offs you make off with.
If you are scraping content, using stock photos, reposting other people's shit, then you are in the position you are in.
The people I work with actually see the net result. It doesn't happen overnight but it does happen.
Content will always be king.
How do you think the Facebook Pages with 100% organic reach do it? They dont go boosting posts. They spend the money on making viral videos. Hire a cook to do flat-lay overlay videos of a recipe. Or a cute model to do makeup tutorials.

You have to try what works better for your account. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with hashtags. I have accounts without hashtags at all, others with 5/7 and others with 25/27.
Having hashtags barely get me 1/5% more reach, so it's not that fundamental on my IG game, but at the moment I think you are right, the more the better.
Never try with full 30 hashtags, it's supposed to be spammy for IG.
But I know some people who even go 30 caption hashtags and 30 comment hashtags.
