Hi,

I've just relaunched my company's new website, the domain is 6 years old and the site is re-indexed with its new content. I've have optimized the site using IBP and got some good back links. I can't get the site higher then the 4th page for my targeted keywords in google.com.au. I've scanned the top 10 sites with IBP for those keywords and to my surprise, my site is better optimized and has more back links then they do. What are they doing that I'm not? Am I missing something?

the site is done in wordpress with WPSEO plugin.

Check keyword density of the top 10 competitors for the keyword you want to rank for. If there keyword density is around 10% then you know you need at least 10% to make it to the first page for that keyword.

sorry for sounding stupid, what do i do now.......
IBP gives me keyword density and in some cases my keyword density is to high, so i removed words, added more words in between keywords etc, according to IBP my site is better optimized.

thanks for your info rannybo, do you have any other suggestions?????

I don't ever deal with foreign versions of G but I would think that maybe you're not as optimized for AU viewers as your competition?

Also if they are really established sites you may just need to keep plugging away at it. More backlinks and content never hurt :)
 
Are you trying to rank for the word home or do you have a longer keyword string that you're trying to rank for like home improvement tips?

If so, check your competitors keyword density and compare the words they are ranking for to yours. Then if you find that you have a density for keyword home around 7.41 and your competitors have a keyword density around 8.9% then sporadically and strategically place those words through out your whole web page.

I strongly believe that keyword density is overlooked when it comes to ranking.

Other than keyword anchor backlinks and keyword density, maybe a little more patience. :D
 
I would say just continue being better then them and wait. You never know exactly when google is going to rank your site up as a results of being better. For me it has taken on sites iv delt with up to 4 months to see certain things pay off even though we are well ahead of the other pages SEO wise. Keep doing what your doing with the back links and it will happen.
