A little about me: I'm currently 4 semesters away from getting my Bachelors in Nursing from a good university (3.96 GPA). My long-term goal was to go on get my BSN and then become a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.).
I guess I'm having serious second thoughts about this right now. I have always loved business. I always remember hustling for cash here and there on the side. I was a powerseller on ebay when I was 15. At 17 I use to go junking in peoples trash and sell the stuff for a profit at garage sales. Whether you believe it or not i'm 20 years old, have no debt, and have $40k+ in my bank account (a large portion thanks to bhw
).
For those of you who aren't familiar the CRNA program is very competitive to get into and if it never worked out I would be stuck being a regular nurse. The more i'm learning about what a "nurse" entails the more I can't see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I'm a really good people person and love interacting with others, but the "nasty" parts of nursing do not interest me at all. I originally went into nursing because I thought I would like it plus it has good job security. Plus it has room for advancement (CRNA).
To make matters worse today I told my dad I'm no longer interested in nursing and want to switch to business and get a MBA or maybe law school. He told me if I switch my major i'm being kicked out of the house, and he's cashing in my college state fund for himself and i'll be forced to live on my own and pay for college and everything. He says there are no jobs right now in business and I should just get my undergraduate degree so i can make money. He says with nursing I can make $50k+ out of school and if I go along further can earn $180k plus as a CRNA.
I guess I don't really know what to do at this point. I know for a fact I want to do something in real-estate or some kind of IM for my main income one day. And you don't need a "business" degree for those although it does help. And like right now, I'm having a hard time going to nursing school when its something i'm not even that crazy about. I definitely would not be content with my life being a regular nurse cleaning bed pans all day.
I'm thinking maybe I should just get my nursing degree with a possible minor in business and then go on and get my MBA after that. With the nursing career you work 8-12 hour shifts of which I could do some kind of the business on the side with my free time.
On the other hand, I could switch to business right now and forget the nursing and go on from there.
I'm sorry if this is more of a rant then anything/ and if my thoughts are all over the place (3 hours sleep
)
If anyone has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it.
