Important notice from google that every webmaster must read

"Hi Im Matt Cutts - Its possible to harm your competitors rankings. But im asking you SUPER NICE not to do it please"

lol what do you expect them to say? Because they sure as sh*t aint gonna admit its possible. When it clearly is.

I admit its shit to do, and shouldn't be done, and i don't do it - but what your saying OP is obviously incorrect.

Haha very true^^

yet people still say you can sandbox and hurt your competitorssss, probably see a thread started on how to do it tomorrow

Of course there are holes in the algorithm that allow people to put down competitors (under certain conditions). But there is a difference between building an algorithm that allows people to put down competitors and building an algorithm that prevents as much as possible those kinds of situations.

So for those thinking you can scrapebox a competitor's url to punish it then you should stop this and save yourself some money.

They've been saying this for years.

"almost nothing". Why would they use the word 'almost'?

This is basically just their public response so there's not an outcry and panic. If even a large amount of people on a blackhat forum think you can't damage people's rankings, then imagine what the average seo thinks.

This is exactly how google wants it. They don't want panic and they don't want people investigating or attempting to attack other people's rankings.

Come on though. If this were the case you could just go and register a new domain, blast it to hell and have stable rankings. Anyone who's even done a bit of seo knows you'll dance about like a magical fairy at best, and at worst you'll just hit the sandbox.

If you couldn't damage your competitor's rankings then there would be no concept of a 'bad neighbourhood' in google.

It really amazes me how quickly people are to believe what google says. What company in history has been entirely truthful about things that will affect their bottom line?

Even when toyota had MAJOR faults in their cars that meant brake-failure, they STILL played it down. If they'd play down as something as serious as that, do you really think google isn't going to play down the fact you can blast your competitor's with bad links to damage their rankings?

It's all about the ratio of "good" to "bad". If a site is aged, has 1000's of diverse, authoritative/trusted backlinks from 1000's of unique domains, then there's very little you can do to damage their rankings by using backlinks.

If they have 100 backlinks and are maybe a year old, then yeah, you can do a lot of damage if you get them a couple of million shady backlinks in a week then backlink those backlinks with blog comments to get them indexed.

It's just completely pointless to do this. Who wants to sit attacking a dozen competitors? You're better off just launching more of your own sites and dominating page 1. If you knock 1 competitor off another will just appear, so it's futile.

That's strange because I recently had a site deindexed and google said it was from baclinking practices against google policy.

wait you did not complete it bro..

the second sentence is this :

"There's almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index. If you're concerned about another site linking to yours, we suggest contacting the webmaster of the site in question."

really ? contact the webmaster ??

please.. yes you can do spammy shit and get your competitor deindexed. they just dont (obviously) want to say their system is not really fool proof.

they stil dont devalue links that are hidden in a scrollbar with 0 width.. i have proof for that :-)

you would imagine with all the nerd power they have.. they can easily write a code to detect- same background color links.. 0 width scrollbar links etc etc
but that shit still works..

obviously if i worked for google and wrote that article i have to be diplomatic and say listen webmasters!! be rest assured that your competitor cannot build crappy links and get your site removed..

lol that's pretty hilarious. I know for a fact someone can do it. I had someone do it to me. Years later as I met more people in the SEO I met a guy who I had told him what happened to a site of mine and what keyword He had said that his friend and him were going for that same keyword and they did stuff to my site to get it penalized and it worked.

I was on the 1st page for this keyword for a while and it was pulling in 1,500 a day. Than bam all of a sudden outta here site was nowhere to be found. Now he had told me what he had done. But even still I believe in karma and wouldn't dare to do that to anyone else cause i know how bad it messed me up I'd hate to do that to someone else and have that on my conscious.

Doesn't this contradict the generally accepted understanding of Panda?

One reads over and over that you absolutely DON'T blast your money site with zillions of XRumer & SB links because of the potential harm.

But doing this to competition would be trivial.

Why you guys never read a phrase twice? "There's almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index.

You can and I know how to - and everyone in this post is nowhere near it.

But there is no way I'm sharing it, so don't PM

lol OP fell for them so easy. OP don't think it can work? Then put your url and keyword here on this thread and let us experiment. :)

Then again we have tonne of our own shit to handle. But this can be a nice break

Took the words right out of my mouth. Seriously people just respect those that are beating your rankings and learn from them and beat them in their own game. Just don't do anything to hurt them.

Treat others the way you want to be treated. I would hate for someone try and take my websites down so why do it to someone else.
hi kile!

I don't agree with hurting "the competition"

But this a completely unsubstantiated claim from google.

This is old and they keep saying this. However you need to understand that it is not completely true, they have their own way of slapping a website for unnatural links.

I have experimented this in one of my own new website. A nutrition based website, i blasted it through scrapebox (Even or porn urls). Did the same with xrumer. Nothing happened to the ranking of the site (I guess google just ignored these links).

However a friend of mine bought a high pr blog network package (don't want to name the service provider) and he got slapped in just 3 days.

In my opinion, google assumes that a competitor won't spend his money to kill competition by building of high pr backlinks through such service providers.

If you are thinking of SB/xrumer to blast your competitor's website, then forget it.. it will not work. however there is a chance that you can buy high pr backlinks and kill your competition. However will you be willing to spend that extra money (there is a fair chance that it might actually help your competitors? ).

Why you guys never read a phrase twice? "There's almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index.

So you're still tended towards spending your time blasting your competitor's site with Scrapebox/Xrumer?

Well, let us for a second assume it does a TINY BIT OF DAMAGE to their site. I would still spend my time and money doing things for my own sites rather than my competitor. And if you've been in the game for a while, you should know that this tactic of Scrapeboxing a competitor doesn't work in the long run. They'll be back with even more power eventually and at the end of the day, you'll regret giving them those links.

Do it the way you're supposed to. Build good links for your own sites and dominate the SERPs. Keep it fair, buddy.

#1 Dont believe everything the devil says

#2 Dont think that all employes of Google are playing on the same team

#3 Take a competitor that has a site less than 2 years old and head over to Fiverr and order 2 or 3 10K to 20K Xrummer blasts and see what happens. Guaranteed they will drop off the face of the earth almost instantly. In fact I am surprised that it doesn't happen more often.

so what happens after 2 years to site a? I have plenty examples of blasting links puts you in the sandbox or whatever other bullshit they devised, some are new some are old. I think it might be more to do with velocity or something rather than age?
