IM Weed Smokers

Everyone's different. There's no blanket statement for weed that will be true of everyone. If it helps you and you're happy with your life and where it's headed than great, blaze the haze. If not, take a step back and ask yourself honestly whether or not it's become a hinder in what you want to achieve. I don't believe that weed necessarily kills motivation, and in fact, I could argue the exact opposite. I know someone who will spark a bowl and get to work and zone out in his stuff and rattle off a 10 hr work session like it was nothing, but I know another guy who smokes and doesn't do shit so...

^This, everyone is different and it effects people in different ways, this "it leaves you lazy and unmotivated" line doesn't apply to everyone, I regularly indulge myself and I would say a lot of the ideas/projects I'm working on have come to fruition wile indulging :p

I like a good old toot on the crack pipe before I have my Corn Flakes, it gets me ready for daily 16 pint binge.

You probably roll up C-Notes and smoke them not pot....:p

When you want to be successful you don't ask whats wrong with something
you ask WHATS RIGHT WITH IT?
is pot gonna take you in anyway closer to your goal? because if so, smoke away my friend
want to lurk and watch youtube videos for 2 hours and work 30 minutes on your IM stuff because your high?
go ahead

Anyway i think you get my point
Cheers

Nice! Eric Thomas said that! One of my favorite quotes of him.

I really don't know how people smoke that stuff... gives me severe anxiety and makes me extremely lazy! Different effects for different people I guess.... would be interesting to know if it has the same effect as me for anyone else though

As long as you can be productive then there is nothing wrong with it. I will never recommend becoming a full-time smoker but to each his own. I used to smoke all day every day and was able to make great money in IM while getting a university degree. Weed does not automatically turn you into an unproductive slug but for some people it does.

Personally I can NOT work while high any more so I use it as my carrot on a stick for the end of the night. The same way I would use a beer or any other reward for a day's work. This way it does, in a way, encourage me to get work done so I can kick back at the end of the day.

Never even been tempted to touch the stuff. I don't have a problem with people that do, each to their own and all that stuff but me personally I can't stand the smell of it.

Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine for me, would like to ditch the nicotine though but after 30 years its quite difficult.

I have mixed feelings about the ganj. Some of the most horrific experiences I've ever had were the result of marijuana, and likewise, some of the best. The very first time I tried to make a purchase I had a gun shoved in my face and around $1600 taken. Just some scumbags taking advantage of a young college kid who didn't know what he was doing. I'd say it helped me grow the fack up though... I'm truly thankful that I'm no longer naive and oblivious. I got most of my business acumen from the street, not from the classroom. So it's kind of bitter sweet really. I smoked for 7 years, never missing a day after I fired up for the first time. I didn't give it up until January 16th of this year, I maintained a very high level executive position (VP of an Inc 5000 company) for almost 5 years while blazed out of my mind. We'd all take hour long lunches passing the iolite and the gpen, we eventually got a volcano for the office and kept it hidden when the CEO was in town. I miss those days... As much as I miss it, I'm happy to be sober and focused on results. I do believe everything is good in moderation, but as Anthony Green says, you can't be high all the time.

I guess it's fine smoking once in a while just to reward yourself for all the hard work you've done.
It's bad when its becoming a habit.

Well, here's the thing about pot that most people do not understand...

Pot is a MAGNIFYING DRUG (I hate calling it a drug but whatever) or should I say it has MAGNIFYING PROPERTIES, by that I mean it enhances everything! This is why everytime you eat something while high, or even read something, watch something, hear something, etc.. you experience it 5x better than when sober.

With that being said, it can also MAGNIFY your laziness or bad attributes about yourself, some people say that weed makes them lazy when in fact that person was lazy to begin with, all it did was enhance what was already there and the same thing applies when it makes you more productive, it simply enhanced what was already there.

Tribes use to use marijuana for reflective purposes (shows you your true self) just like ayahuasca. Then if you see something you don't like about yourself, you can then correct it.

For the most part, most people who says that pot makes you lazy might have had an INDICA strain and most people who say pot keeps them up and more productive most likely had an SATIVA strain. I notice that most people tend to have a lack knowledge so they jump to conclusions and simply state their "bias opinions" because they did not have the adequate knowledge about what they were taking/doing and end up passing the wrong info (which paradoxically happens all the time on BHW :))

Not to mention, just like with alcohol, if you take to much, you tend to get a negative effect. This is why I like to get high and not stoned, to me getting stoned is exactly that, you become a rock.. LOL

For those of you who say weed makes you lazy, if weed is legal in your state, go ahead and ask your local weed shop for the strongest PURE sativa they have. Bet you won't feel lazy then :)

On that note, don't make weed a crutch, this can have severe consequences on your energy centers (known as chakras) which can cause you to manifest stuff you did not intend but that's a conversation for another day.:D

Pot is NOT a "magnifying drug". I'm sorry but that's horseshit.

It's as much a "magnifying drug" as opiates are. First time I used opium 12 years ago I thought I was "magnified" back then. Opiates make you empathetic, caring, social, they make food taste better (especially sugary foods), they "magnify" coffee cause it's a potentiator like sugar, they "magnify" cigarettes, they magnify your abilities to pick up women, to not be nervous on job interviews, however...... have you ever heard that classic phrase "what goes up must come down"? You're only focusing on the first 2-3 hours of a high. Which are "magnifying". Problem is the 20+ hours that follow are DEmagnifying.

People say pot effects people differently, I think pot is the same as all drugs. Whatever drug takes you "up" will inevitably take you right back "down".

With opiates, your kappa receptors fire off and go "up", then when you're high, everything is better and "magnified" as you say. Problem is, once that shit wears off everything become demagnified, distorted, and debilitating. And the comedown lasts much longer than the high. Ask any doctor and they will tell you regardless of the drug, all drugs have 2 different phases. The therapeutic effects which only last a few hours, then the side effects which can last for weeks.

Pot isn't as strong as opiates, but the same rules of gravity apply to brain chemistry. "What goes up must come down". When you're high on pot, your brain is firing out dopamine which makes everything seem a little better. Makes food taste better. Makes movies better. Makes music better. But why do potheads always leave out the shit that pot doesn't magnify? Does it magnify running? No. How many people smoke pot then go for a jog? Does it magnify going to the gym? Definitely not. Does it magnify any aspect of exercise? No. You'll be coughing, breathing heavy and tired as hell. Even if you don't feel tired it will be amplified once the blood starts flowing and all those shitty, sedating THC metabolites kick back up into your brain. Does it magnify your ability to do math? No. Does it magnify your memory? No. Does it magnify your attention span? Does it magnify your IQ? Hell no. Just read the medical journals.

So we've established that even when you are high, there are lots of things (subsets of memory, attention, iq, exercise) that pot doesn't magnify.

What's worse, after that initial dopamine spike, when the weed wears off, things become dull as hell. Bye bye "magnification". And no offense, but I'm getting sick of people saying "it's most likely the strain". I have access to most strains you can think of, sativa and indica. And although some effect you more in the body, and are more sedating, all forms of pot are sedating. Anyone who doesn't believe that, go smoke your favorite sativa strain than immediately go for a run. The next day, don't smoke anything and go for a run. Then tell me that sativa's don't sedate you. The only real difference if you ask me is sativa's are a bit lighter on the body. As in, you don't feel it so much in your muscles. But you do feel it in your head (that burnt out feeling).

I will also speak to purity. I've smoked cannabutter, hashoil, some of the purest forms of weed that exist and they ALL burn you out. Because they ALL fire off dopamine which suppresses and burns out those receptors.

I've also seen guys toke a bowl then "work" for 10 hours straight. But guess what? The quality of their "work" is usually atrocious. They misspell shit, misinterpret things, over analyze things, go on rants about the weirdest shit. There IS a small group of highly intelligent people in which pot doesn't have such obvious effects. Like people with natural social skills or people who are naturally very intelligent. Like Tommy, he's a guy with high social intelligence. He's got a great personality. But if he stopped smoking weed tomorrow, his IQ would increase. His memory, attention and wits would get that much sharper. So in his case, it's not so obvious that pot is effecting him.

Same thing with engineers. Or people who are brilliant at math. I'm sure they can smoke a bowl and go do calculus for 16 hours. Same way I can smoke a bowl and synthesize speed or MDMA without killing myself. Most people can't do that sober. Put me in a fully stocked lab and I'll make LSD right in front of your eyes. Get me some rye grain, some chelated zinc and water, I'll make ergot, ergotamine then finally LSD. I'll show you how to extract the strychnine under a UV light with a turkey baster so you don't poison yourself before you trip. The point is, YES, certain people are naturally intelligent at certain things. So weed doesn't seem to effect those people so much. But I dare any pot head to dive into a medical database for 12 hours, read all the studies about weed, then come back and tell me weed doesn't have serious effects on your motivation, memory, attention span and overall IQ.

I have to clarify, I'm not saying pot turns everyone into a lazy bum. But it DOES diminish brain activity. It suppresses the reward center of your brain in more ways than 1. So things become dull and boring when the high wears off. You become much more prone to procrastinating and a royal case of the fuckits.

One final thing. This may sound radical but it's something I think about all the time. And I think it draws strong parallels to real life. If you were a soldier, were sent to the front line and had to fight for your life .... would you wanna smoke a bowl to "magnify" that experience? LOL. I don't think so. I think most people would be smart enough to know that's a great way to get killed. This may sound like a crazy analogy, but life is very similar to war. Many people say, "life IS war". It's just a really slow, watered down version of it. Everyday you wake up you're getting ready to fight for your life. To make money so you can eat. To have a house over your head. To be healthy and live a long life. To protect your livelihood, business and family.

I remember my last dog. She was a diabetic. I got high as hell 1 night and guess what? About 40 minutes after I lit up she went into diabetic shock. Couldn't walk, couldn't stand up, then started vomiting and having a seizure. It was like 1am in the morning and I'm thinking "this dog is going to die tonight but I can NOT drive to the vet in this condition"? I was FREAKING OUT. I went from perfectly calm and chill to almost having a seizure myself. I didn't wanna leave her, didn't want to go to the vet, had to go to the vet, but couldn't even grab my keys to get the car. I was so afraid I'd come back and she'd be dead. My thoughts were spiraling so fast I became paralyzed. I just sat there on the floor crying, petting her and holding her tongue. Fortunately she didn't die that night and and hours later she was back on her feet. But that scared the shit out of me.

Then, a few months after that, I get a call at 11pm. It's my mother frantically crying. Again, I'm high as f#ck. She's screaming at the top of her lungs, "your brother just collapsed and is on his way to xxx hospital, we don't know what happened but you need to get there NOW!!!". I hung up and thought, "you gotta be kidding me"? On the way to the hospital I had to stop at a store just to buy visine. I was the last 1 to show up and found out he went into atrial fibrillation. Nothing fatal but it was pretty serious.

A few weeks pass by and my brother calls me up. He says, "bro, I know you were high at the hospital that night". Then he says, "let me ask you something... what are you gonna do when you're high and mom or dad have a stroke"? And I didn't even answer him. I just sat there thinking "he's 100% right". The next day, I flushed all my weed down the toilet. About 2 months after that my dog died. And yes I was sad but thank god I wasn't high when that happened. Cause I could never forgive myself. My parents are over 70 now and I know I don't have many precious years left with them. I'm getting old. My brothers are getting old. And it's not so much a matter of death as it is a matter of life. I want to live. I want to be sober. I wanna be fully coherent when those unexpected emergencies happen. Even if it's a small emergency like someone NSEO'n my site. I need to know I'm in a clear state of mind when making pivotal decisions in my life. Maybe this stuff doesn't matter to other people. Maybe it doesn't matter to potheads. But it sure as hell matters to me.

ps. This message was directed at chronic pot smokers, not recreational.

I heard that weed is not good for diabetes?

I have some blood glucose problems, so never tried it.

But it looks cute.

Huhh... Ok, let's take it from the top..

Pot is NOT a "magnifying drug". I'm sorry but that's horseshit.

Im a bit confused, you say it's not a magnifying drug but then go off and list things that marijuana and opiates do and do not magnify? then you say pot heads leave out the things that marijuana don't magnify? If something doesn't magnify, it simply doesn't magnify.

So you kinda lost me on that...

Again, you cannot become "de-magnified' if you weren't magnified in the first place, it either magnifies or it doesn't. Second thing, marijuana is not an opiate so please stop comparing the effect of an opiate to the effect of cannabinoids. Also, I never said the effects last for ever, I never even implied how long the effects last.

Pot isn't as strong as opiates, but the same rules of gravity apply to brain chemistry. "What goes up must come down". When you're high on pot, your brain is firing out dopamine which makes everything seem a little better. Makes food taste better. Makes movies better. Makes music better. No. Does it magnify your memory? No. Does it magnify your attention span? Does it magnify your IQ? Hell no. Just read the medical journals.

You're putting everyone (all pot smokes) in one big POT (no pun intended). Not everyone smokes pot in the traditional sense of using a blunt or a bong, some people use vapors and some peoples use a totally different alternative altogether such as edibles. With that being said, if used in the context that I illustrated, then yes it could also magnify the effects at the gym because it might push you to do that extra rep (Which we all know that's where gains come from), it also might push you to run that extra mile when taking that jog because you will be far more motivated (Assuming you consume the right strain) as opposed to forcing yourself to do it. Also, you keep implying that pot magnifies everything, there is nothing on this planet that does everything and that holds true for pot aswell, so it would be nave for anyone to think that pot would boost your IQ, etc..

So we've established that even when you are high, there are lots of things (subsets of memory, attention, iq, exercise) that pot doesn't magnify.

Well let's just agree to disagree, there are still studies being conducted regarding all three things including memory and attention: http://thejointblog.com/new-government-funded-study-cannabis-may-improve-attention-memory/

If you really believe that there is no magnification, in the sense of using the word "horseshit" as you say, that word is usually associated with great disbelief and yet you keep bringing it up in comparison. Also, as I read more of your reply seems like you think I was specifically targeting you with my original reply but I wasn't, I was speaking in general terms. As far as your comment goes with the sativa, You're still "smoking" it, smoking anything no matter what it is is going to tire you out because your body is not meant to constantly inhale smoke So if you felt tired in the past it's not because of the marijuana but it's because of the actual "smoke" that's doing a number on your body. So even if it was with cigarettes or anything, you will still experience shortness of breath, etc.. because of the effects from the "smoke" not the marijuana.

And I worked out after "vaporizing" using the strain known as Blue Dream (sativa) which I don't use anymore because it kept me up for 24 hours at one point. Again, I'm consuming pure marijuana not the crappy papers, tobacco skins, or whatever people smoke out of these days.

I will also speak to purity. I've smoked cannabutter, hashoil, some of the purest forms of weed that exist and they ALL burn you out. Because they ALL fire off dopamine which suppresses and burns out those receptors.

Anything involving "smoke" skews the effect. You're body was never designed to constantly inhale smoke.

You cannot compare the effects of a handful of people that you know and let that dictate everybody's experience. It's just like when you drink alcohol, if you drink a bottle or two you'll still be fine and you'll be able to get your work done assuming you have a high tolerance level. Because tolerance comes into effect is well, a person who has a high tolerance level can smoke a bowl and be perfectly fine as opposed to a person who just started last week, their body hasn't adjust to the effects of marijuana.

As far as Tommy or anyone else for that matter, how do you know that this will increase their IQ? the only studies that I've seen show that the IQ drops (by 3 points if im correct) in adolescence but once the person was over 18 there was literally no effect to their IQ according to the study. The reason why it affects adolescents is because their brain are still developing.

But I dare any pot head to dive into a medical database for 12 hours, read all the studies about weed, then come back and tell me weed doesn't have serious effects on your motivation, memory, attention span and overall IQ.

Like I said in my original statement, it magnifies what's already in you. If a guy who is a "pot head" (and im assuming you mean the stereotypical pot head) then yes, you would be correct, he would not able to do any of that simply because he's dumb with or without weed. Again, nothing to do with weed.

It all comes down to the individual. I'm not like that (even though I haven't smoked for 2 years now) nor the people who I know who smoke weed (with the exception of a few) but again, it's on a person to person bases.

To be healthy and live a long life. To protect your livelihood, business and family.

It depends, if the soldier did not build up a tolerance than yes he would get that paranoid "experience". But if the person is a avid smoker they will have a totally different experience, he would have a heighten since of calmness, as a matter of fact he would probably be more alert.

I remember my last dog. She was a diabetic. I got high as hell 1 night and guess what? About 40 minutes after I lit up she went into diabetic shock. Couldn't walk, couldn't stand up, then started vomiting and having a seizure. I'm sorry to hear that but from reading that statement it seems that pot might not be legal were you live? This is why people have paranoia and bad experiences etc. the reason for this (or should I say one of the reason for this) is because their focus is on not getting caught, going to jail, etc... Im speaking from experience, some of the worst times I have ever had when I was high was back when I lived with my parents in a state were marijuana was illegal (Assuming that you live in a state where it's not legal or your peers or parents didn't approve).

At the end of the day, it seems like your personal fears might be the reason for your outlooks. That's not something me or anyone else can change no matter what is being said. Everyone is their own individual and everyone will have a different experience based off their belief systems.

Ok, sure. Nobodies gonna follow this rant anyway but I'm gonna respond as quickly as I can.

You got lost cause you're not paying attention. First, lets change the word "magnify" to "enhance"... ok? My main point is when you put all the enhancing and non-enhancing properties on a scale, pot as a whole is a drug that dulls people out. You call pot a drug that "magnifies" peoples lives. I call it a drug that turns people into lazy bums. Not everyone, but the majority.

If we are ALIVE then were are already "magnified" (I'm really starting to hate this word). We can see, breathe, eat, shit and have sex. And neglecting how long side effects last (very long) vs therapeutic effects (very short) is usually how most people get addicted to drugs in the first place. They just pay attention to the instant gratification that pot gives them but are in complete denial about what it's really doing to their lives.

Give me a break dude. If you are seriously trying to tell me that pot can magnify a workout you must be stoned out of your mind right now. All forms and strains of pot are sedating. Sedation + exercise = shitty workout. This is why most professional athletes don't smoke pot. It's not rocket science bro.

Well let's just agree to disagree, there are still studies being conducted regarding all three things including memory and attention: http://thejointblog.com/new-government-funded-study-cannabis-may-improve-attention-memory/

LOL. Of all places you cite "thejointblog". Won't even respond to that.

This is pseudo-scientific garbage. Smoke does NOT make you tired. It depends on what is IN the smoke. Go take a hit of crack and you'll see what I mean. THC on the otherhand is a SEDATING drug. I don't know how many times I have to say this or in how many different ways. Most people take a nap or go to bed after they smoke. They don't get energized and say "damn dude I feel like running a marathon right now".

And I worked out after "vaporizing" using the strain known as Blue Dream (sativa) which I don't use anymore because it kept me up for 24 hours at one point. Again, I'm consuming pure marijuana not the crappy papers, tobacco skins, or whatever people smoke out of these days.

Your pot was laced with a stimulant dude. You can smoke it, vaporize it, plug it up your ass for all I care, pot is a DOWNER. Why do you think when people drink alcohol then smoke pot they get ridiculously drunk, tired, and often blackout? Certain strains are more mental than physical but ALL strains of weed bring you DOWN. If you smoked weed and stayed up for 24 hours it was probably laced with PCP.

Anything involving "smoke" skews the effect. You're body was never designed to constantly inhale smoke.

It all depends on what's in the smoke. Most smoke (from leaves, wood, etc) doesn't skew anything because most particles in smoke are NOT psychoactive.

You're clearly a pothead in denial.

Yes, 2-3 points you are correct. Where you are incorrect is adults are effected the same exact way. You need to do more research bro.

Like I said in my original statement, it magnifies what's already in you. If a guy who is a "pot head" (and im assuming you mean the stereotypical pot head) then yes, you would be correct, he would not able to do any of that simply because he's dumb with or without weed. Again, nothing to do with weed.

It does NOT "magnify what's already in you". I've been extremely ambitious my entire life and everytime I smoke weed it makes me lazy as hell. Same thing with virtually every person I've ever met in my life. Same thing the studies say. Same thing mainsteam society says. It enhances a few things (taste, hearing, sight) but that "enhancing" effect simultaneously robs you of a sober, clear, state of mind. It alters your brain. Dumbs you down. And that's why you can't understand anything I'm writing cause you're in denial about what pot is really doing to your life.

It all comes down to the individual. I'm not like that (even though I haven't smoked for 2 years now) nor the people who I know who smoke weed (with the exception of a few) but again, it's on a person to person bases.

We get it dude. Not everyone has the same experience with pot. Same with crack, cocaine, speed, etc. HOWEVER, there are OBVIOUS, OVERLYING >>PATTERNS (called a "bell curve") and that's exactly what I'm talking about.

It depends, if the soldier did not build up a tolerance than yes he would get that paranoid "experience". But if the person is a avid smoker they will have a totally different experience, he would have a heighten since of calmness, as a matter of fact he would probably be more alert.

Nooooo way. Having a tolerance is WORSE because you'd be experiencing the chronic, long term effects of smoking weed (decreased attention, memory, iq etc). Find me 1 soldier who smoked weed before going to battle and thought it was a good idea afterwards and I'll give you $1000 right now. :)

This is why I said in my original post DON"T GET STONED!

I think you may be stoned right now.

It's legal in a few states but not in NJ (where I live). With that said, I don't pay attention to the media or any type of fear mongering. I never got paranoid on pot. And I DO think it should be decriminalized. But not legalized. I also know for a fact if you get a soldier high and put him in battle that soldier is 100xs more likely to get his head blown off. We already learned this from vietnam when 1/3 of troops were using opiates or weed. And many of these idiots got slaughtered by the thousands. These days the military has very strict regulations regarding any type of drug use. Same as the NFL. Same as most high profile positions in society.

At the end of the day, it seems like your personal fears might be the reason for your outlooks. That's not something me or anyone else can change no matter what is being said. Everyone is their own individual and everyone will have a different experience based off their belief systems.

Look man. I LOVE pot. I LOVE the way it makes me feel. That is, for the first 2-3 hours after I get high. What I don't like is after 3-4 hours pass by. Then my brain no longer works straight. I can't think straight. I can't focus like I can when I don't smoke weed. I can't work as effectively. I can't remember words. I forget shit. I can't articulate words. The quality of my writing goes to shit. I FEEL STUPID and because pot MAKES ME STUPID.

Now you can regurgitate all the predictable nonsense that potheads spout on about... like "it depends on the person" or "it depends on the strain" but you have got to be 1 ignorant person to not realize what pot really does to people.

Just start with 1 search on Google - "does pot make you lazy". Then READ what people write.

WHY do 90% of people outright say "yes, pot makes you lazy"? It's not cause they've been brainwashed by the media. It's because they've SMOKED POT so they know what it does to them.

WHY does most peer-reviewed articles back up this standpoint?

WHY have potheads been stereotyped as lazy bums for centuries? Before media or science even existed?

WHY is it, that the ONLY group of people denying this shit.... happen to be potheads? I use to say the SAME exact things you're saying now. Then I stopped smoking weed and it took me almost 6 months just to realize how bad my denial was. I NEEDED to justify my usage cause I WANTED to use. You could show me all the studies, all the articles, all the anecdotal evidence in the world and I'd still argue and deny deny deny.

And that's exactly what you seem to be doing right now. MAYBE you got lucky and happened to be 1 of those rare people who falls on the edge of the bell curve. I HAVE met potheads who are wildly successful but the majority are anything but. Most who smoke pot long term turn into lazy, unmotivated, dull & disorganized people. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure this out either. Hell, you don't even need to read any research. If you live on this planet for long enough, meet enough people, over the decades you just learn certain stereotypes are true. As politically correct as our society tries to be, it's pathetic what the US is turning into. Many people can't even admit that blacks live in a violent culture. Yet when you watch the news, when you read FBI crime stats, when you read the real numbers, data and statistics.. you clearly see they commit 8xs as many homicides as whites. Many people think it's a "stereotype" to say "most Americans are fat". But when you read the numbers... most Americas ARE FAT. I say this not to sound bigoted. And not all stereotypes are true. But many stereotypes exist for a good reason - and I call that reason "reality". :)

After smoking weed, it's up to to you what you want to be. A lazy ass sitting and enjoying the trip or you can focus on things and work. I myself prefer getting high sometimes and work, I get so many better ideas when I am high.

Smoke Pot -> Brainstorm -> Idea! -> Implement it -> Money :D

I work in a call center and smoke weed everyday at work.. It helps me talk with my customers easier :D
