IM career over

Hey, man, I'm in university too and i find time to do IM.
I think you could do it too. After all - there's nothing impossible in this world.

Blackhat alone may not be a way to avoid college, but using your skills and revenue from BH to build sustainable buisnesses is. I'm doing both, I'm mostly doing college because I think the challenge and social environment will be good for me, I'm doubtful I'll ever use my degree for employment, but I am hoping I can learn something that will help me out.
 
Just like all others said just balance and find one thing that makes you some money and stay with it ... and if we don't see you for awhile don't worry IM will be here when you get back and then with a college degree you can buy more of my shit for sale .. LOL best to you
 
Do what works for you. Its your life and you are 100% responsible for your results.

If you understand IM and can cut away the unproductive things, you can be successful in IM even when you are in college.

In fact, you should be able to make money off of your fellow college students by promoting affiliate programs that appeal to that demographic.
 
sounds like you just read here for 4 years without implementing anything.
 
Personal experience tells me that unless you're taking 17+ credits, you should have plenty of time to pursue both IM and good grades, and still be able to party hardy on the weekends (thirsty thursdays included).

Its all about how well you manage your time.
 
great thread, Im kinda in the same position but I manage to squeeze in IM-time. You should plan your work because then you will get alot more done and you will have much more structure

College is supposed to be the best time of your life, so if you absolutely can't do both, then focus on the college work as IM will always be around.
 
It all depends what you're going to college for.

If you're going to college in business/marketing or another study where there are actual jobs, then I would stay in college.

If you're going to get a liberal arts degree, or an English degree (in US) then you might as well drop out while you're ahead. These jobs are few and far inbetween.

I'm actually a big promoter for college, I think it's very, VERY important. But if you're going to get a bogus degree then expect a bogus job.


PS: I go to college full-time, actually 18 credits, which is 1.5x full time. I still own a very successfull online operation. I guess I'm going for business so my business learning compliments the business experience.


I also think the first 2 years of college are worthless/pointless. Our education system is broke, too. But that's a different topic for a different day! :)

For some reason I went against everyones advice here when I had the make the choice. I finished 1 year of University, and dedicated my time to a fulltime semi-specialised job (not earning as much as I would with a degree) but making so much with my IM career (on the side) that my actual salary is just pocket money.

Like most people here though, I agree that it's difficult to get to a position where you can rely only on IM for income, hence my fulltime job. My monthly spendings are about equal to my salary, so if it all goes wrong I'll be ok, just no holidays and expensive gifts for my girlfriend until I get back on my feet :)

Take a leap of faith! You can always study no matter what age you are. Have fun with what you love doing while you can.

Just a few things to mention though:
1. I sold off most of my online assets to pay for tuition, housing, etc.
2. I still have a good chunk of AutoBlogs left bringing in some cash every month
3. One project was put on hold and converted into a help center for people who are just starting in IM - I'm doing this from my phone, so it fits into the schedule very well. I'll setup some way to make money from it from outside traffic while still helping out people on the inside.
4. I'm in the process of looking for a JV partner, but it's been slow.
5. As for the college students, I've already milked them dry with CPA email offers in the first 2 weeks :P

Two things that I need to work on, which a lot of you mentioned above, is time management and risk taking. Fall break is coming up, so I'll make sure to get my **** together then.

If you've "done im for 4 years" how are you not banking is what i want to know =P I wouldn't care if i entered college and my grades were slipping if i was making over 100 a day. Which already puts you ahead of all the people that work minimimum wage jobs but i guess that doesn't equate to a "full time job"

like someone mentioned above Im will always be here.

You never know what will happen to the internet though. Have you seen some of the bills that lobbyists have been pushing in congress? - in the US at least. We all think that these things will never pass, but there are ways to sneak them in or cloak them. These are the real black hatters. Their first bad attempt was the internet kill switch, which was suppose to be used in case of attacks on the nation's security. Piece by piece, they'll put little laws here and there in other bills and before you know it, the internet is being watched like a hawk.

Anyway, it's just something to fall back on. If plan A doesn't work, then plan B is always an option, and I don't know of any job that pays a salary above 50k per year without a college degree.

don't worry much about quitting IM. You'll be back, probably not tomorrow but
the day after tomorrow. I guess many for you guys BHW IS the College, because if you apply techniques and tricks you've learned in BHW, you can blow away mind of any college professor unless he himself is a student and practitioner of BHW. I guess you're young guy, so remember what did you learn and enjoyed doing being young -- you'll enjoy doing these things many years ahead.

but I think a college degree is important now a days. Even though everybody and their moms have college degrees you'll be viewed automatically as a better candidate then someone without a degree....now of course experience does matter but it's always good to say oh yeah i have my degree in.....whtever if I were you I would outsource keep the money flowing in . it is business and it is your business the outsourcers would be your staff just take less of the of the loot while it is still coming..thats what i would do honestly

What do you specialize in?
 
You should look at the bigger picture.

You'd prefer to be in "the system" and be a slave to someone else for the rest of your life? Unless you want to be something specific like a doctor then I can't understand why you would give a shit anymore about college.

The whole point of IM to get rich is not for the money or the Ferrari. It's to liberate you from the crap everyone else puts up with.
 
If you're worried about the outsources stealing your ideas/methods/etc., then I suggest compartmentalizing the work. I don't know what your strategy/method is, but here is an example:

1. Hire someone to do the research

2. Hire someone else to do the url scraping

3. Hire someone else to do the article writing

4. Hire someone else to SEO the articles

5. Hire someone to do the backlinking

6. Hire someone else to do the pinging

etc. etc..

The point is, those who you hire are to never know about the other people whom you've hired. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, only you do.
