Something is happening to me. The more I do IM, the more I transform into a 'shady marketer'. I was playing KoToR 2 and noticed myself acting quite morally ambiguous for a profit. I didn't care if I was going for the light or dark side route as long as the NPCs paid me full credits.

Maybe my true nature is surfacing?

Remember this game? That Loan shark is me. :[]

Anyone else find themselves not caring if they do White Hat, Black Hat or Grey Hat techniques? As long as it's not illegal, would you be willing to do just about anything?

So many people live their entire life believing they have their moral compass right. In reality they just didn't know how not to get caught, how to bend the rules, trick the system, people in it, all that shady stuff. Once we get our hands on weapons and tools of mass destruction, our true nature emerges. I can confirm that it becomes much harder to keep moral integrity when u know how to make your life easier at expense of others. Easier life often beats morality

    "I was playing KoToR 2" ≠ "I'm becoming more business-minded"

To your point though, it's always good to have a personal good and evil. Start out white as snow, and only do things Warren Buffett would approve of. Once you have a solid groundwork, if you need to do things that may alter your moral compass, that's your prerogative. But you must always remember that you have to take responsibility for your actions. Both positive and negative.

Have I done immoral things to get ahead of my competition? Absolutely. Have I done illegal things to get ahead of my competition? Not that I am willing to admit on a public forum. As Mike Ehrmantraut said, no half measures.

I didn't really read your post, but I'd been trying to remember the name of that game for years, so thanks :D

It was partially because of video games that I am on BHW in the first place. It was thanks to video games that I enjoy studying history and etymology. I was one of the best spellers and fastest readers in my school district, thanks to role-playing games.

    (game spoilers ahead)

Take for example Knights of The Old Republic II: The premise of the story is that both the Jedi and the Sith are pawns of the Force. Your mentor, Kreia, throughout the game attempts to show you the path outside the force through the events that transpire. The Jedi council is all but a scattered memory and the Sith are causing a chain-reaction that will lead to their own demise. It brings an interesting view of morality and that both Light and Dark are from the same stock.

I think you'd be surprised how much you could learn about the economy, simply by playing enough MMORPGs. There are many ways of becoming rich in game. People come seeking your advice on where to get the best gear, etc.

I wouldn't really call it Good and Evil, even though I'm a religious person. Evil implies doing something that is illegal or the opposite of what is socially acceptable, at least in the modern sense of the term. The problem is that most people confuse Legal with Lawful. There are different levels of that and it would be best to leave those topics for another time... perhaps even outside of BHW, lol.

P.S. Who decides what is business-minded and what isn't? I find that if I work 16 hours a day I'll see less progress than if I played for a few hours and worked 8 hours with full efficiency.

The funny thing about life is that all paths tend to cross eventually. Even with my laziness and stubbornness - I still ended up here. There's no reason to live with regret, because it was through much hardship that we became who we are.

I couldn't have come here any sooner. Even if I did, I wouldn't have lasted this long.

Sorry, guess I better go post a duck face photo on my fan page immediately. :(
