What the FUCK does war have to do with the internet?

If War broke out and it was so bad that it effected the worlds Internet nodes (highly unlikely in itself), I promise you won't be worried about the fucking internet anymore.

And Obama internet kill switch? Is that a joke?

The internet is still based on the fundamental concepts developed by the US Military in the 1960s for the Arpanet project. The core of the system was based on packet switching, with the idea being that even if part of the network is physically destroyed in wartime, the data being transfered between computers will still find a path back and forth.

Networks have evolved a lot since the days of Arpanet, but the fundamental concept of packet switching allowing data to find it's own path from source to destination still exists. It might be possible to disrupt the system enough to slow it down considerably, but it would be close to impossible to shut it down completely.

The foundation of the internet is based on a concept designed to withstand the very scenario that your presenting.


The much more likely source of problems will be the ones we all face everyday already. Viruses, Data Mining, DDOS Attacks and the like. It will do a lot more damage in a war if a subversive group is able to use the internet to access the financial centers of the target country to steal as much money as possible. Steal the money and create panic in the target countries financial sector. This money can then be used to finance the war effort even more. This type of internet warfare already goes on, but in the case of a full blown war it would likely become even worse. And as ForeverNever pointed out, if there really was a large scale world war, you're going to have a lot more to worry about than just the internet.

On a serious note, I think technology is going to die anyway. Won't be anytime soon though.

The term Internet Kill Switch has been exaggerated. It won't shut down the entire internet.

But if a war started like WWIII you think people would give a rat a** bout the internet. You would be too busy trying to keep your alive.

first of all , checking the reservist military personnel it's an common practice on countries where military job was or is still '' a must '' . so ... those routine checks it's just damn normal . About the war ... in last 62 years we had ( actually not everyone but most of us ) had like 7-8 mini-wars , in modern days wars aren't taken only on streets / destroying buildings and highways ... that's just last and final step just to destroy an infrastructure with only one scope , just to had to rebuild the territory ...

About the internet ... it's just can't stop ... like someone pointed out before , it's based and work on old structure of arpanet , that's why ipv6 it's so hard to be adopted , the routing nodes and transatlantic optic fiber will gate the communication between the europe and us ...

Now ... let's go back to the war thing , even if americans will go to spank iranian's asses ( witch is most probably their next step since they finish to destroy most of middle east territory ) they have enough military force , enough weapons , and enough alliances with enough military force also to keep this war '' local '' meaning the damages will be most probably on that region , of course there will be some casual civil life loses , and some cities / buildings / roads destroyed. It's called globalization ... us military and us government need to force their '' point of views '' and they will use all ways to do that , they have huge historical debts , they need to make money , and the war since hundreds of years it's maybe most profitable way to make money . We are way too young and only peoples who read some history will understand why I said that , on history are known examples about that but states / empires who had need of natural resources had to fight for them ... easy like this to understand war make money , it's a making money machine , at this moment it's seems americans build-ed that machine and it's works well

Protect your sites from all enemy fire, because this is what you would be most worried about at such a time. So if they wipe out your family, no problem, they can be replaced. Simples.

This is exactly why the internet shutting off would be a great thing. No more adult boys living on their computers masquerading as men. You'd have to go outside into the real world and who knows if you'd survive...

To the OP:
1.I was surprised to read the Europe VS Iran war exclusively on BHW.
2.Since you are from Europe, you know that Europe is not a "country" (nothing compared to the US) and talking about war against Europe is like talking for war against Africa ( with some extra cooperation and trade unions).
3. I mostly liked the calendar to be honest...in two months.I didnt know that wars do not happen "just like that " so you have an advantage. This was will be like an appointment.

Sheesh, I wouldn't worry too much about this, because the United Nations said that they would release the successor to the internet known as the "Ten Retni Information Super Highway" in case something like this happens. And just a few months ago they tested the Ten Retni networks to compare speed with the internet and it was said to be about 112 times faster on average. So I wouldn't be too worry about it.

Truthfully I think we must all look at anything that is put before us and do our own bit of research to put it into perspective.
Don't for a minute imagine that any governments are going to fill us in on what is before us.
Would affect the markets and law and order. They work on a sneak up attitude "knowing" what is good (?) for us but even better for them. The governments of this world are NOT your friend. They are self serving for their power. We are minions to be controlled and become fodder for their war machines.
Always do your own due diligence and take nothing that is parroted to us in the media via the governments as an oath. Always err on the side of caution.
You only have to look at the Middle East to see that these wars have not been for the good of the people but simply for big business....OIL ! It is extremely sad to see the amount of losses for dollars. Nearly 5k young men and women have lost their lives. So sad.
Look to history. History repeats itself over and over. Sorry to get on my soap box but I have age on my side to remember.
