That's a question we should all be asking when it comes to social situations where we can make a difference.

Not asking that, and not acting on that is not how you want to live your life.

Your goal should be, in social situations where there is a need, to see how you can help.

It is usually not a lot of effort on your end but a huge reward on the end of the person you helped.

That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a good ROI.

Nice thread. The feeling of doing something for someone is also extremely satisfying, and creates peace and joy within.

Not everything can be bought, and that's the beauty of life.

Doing something for someone who don't even hope to get help anymore is what moving mountains looks like.

Wise words once again. I find the more you practice the easier it gets to see ways to make a difference and to have the confidence to take action. If you look hard there are daily opportunities. Have a good night everyone!

I do try to help people and animals that I can and as much as I can, but one person can't always help everybody, so you also have to set yourself a boundary and a limit as well. You simply can't save the whole world even if you wanted to.

Unfortunately, at least two recent situations come to mind for me about helping somebody who instead of appreciating the help became entitled and started aggressively demanding more. I try to not hold those behaviors of some people against other people who might need help, but I'm catching myself becoming more cautious even if I don't really want to be.

Yes! Especially if you can provide a unique expertise or possess a unique experience. In this case imho quality doesn't matter that much, your knowledge does.

You summed it up well. Small actions go a long way, and most people underestimate how much a simple gesture can change someone’s day. It doesn’t cost much to pay attention and step in when it matters, but it says a lot about who you are. If more people treated “how can I help?” as a default mindset, a lot of situations would look very different.

I helped a man climb a mountain and didn't realize that I reached the peak too

Helping one person might not change the world but it will change the world for that person

I read those two lines from two different posts last month I guess ; )

Brave up then.
If you take massive, brave action while still upfront and young, there might just be someone lurking and waiting for that to happen, so she can intervene and somehow make it worse for you. I've had this in the world of work, but I'm self-sufficient now thankfully, with a big wallet and big health problems. but nothing comes for free .
