If Blackhat SEO is so "catchable" why do people still do it?

Hello Everyone,

I am curious why Blackhat SEO is even a thing if it isn't effective or if it is so easily detectable. For example, if the war on drugs was effective then you'd imagine that it would be super difficult for anyone to ever use sort of drugs and it would probably reach the point where the ROI would simply not be there.

Why isn't blackhat SEO at this point? Why do people still do it and consider it viable?

They still do it because it is indeed viable.

There are a ton of ways to hide that you are BHing to rank your site and, in all reality, any link that is not a natural link (one that is not purchased) is BH and the entire internet on 9 planets is full of those kinds of links.

because for the short time that it works it's very profitable. And those who have the means to scale things up and automate the entire process will continue doing it as soon as their sites get penalized.

Do you really think that you'd not make bank with 12 million visitors a month for 2-3 months? Even I, a random nobody, could slap a PLR ebook in front of that traffic and link it to my Paypal for $4.95 and even if only 0.0001% of that traffic buys my ebook I'd still make $6000 per month. And the individuals that do this all day long - at scale - make millions, not $6000 on a measly ebook

Because they make great return in short time they are up there.

Even if you didn't bother to hide the fact of what you were doing for longevity purposes, the fact of the matter is you can profit massively doing churn and burn blackhat projects. You can always shunt those earnings to white hat.

Because no one wants to waste time in ranking and waiting for months.

I still see many website on the first page search result with spam Article(s) that have good keywords for the bots, but after you read the Article(s) you notice that they are all generic crap.

You can make massive profits doing Blackhat SEO. They still do it because it is profitable.

Because even Google is doing it.
Not even running your sites as 'white hat' as possible can or would save you from Google updates. If anything, the recent Helpful Content Update should let you know that what matters is how you were able to bank from your investment as quickly as possible, because nothing is guaranteed. White, black, pink or orange hat. Nothing is guaranteed.
