Ideal profit margin on POD t-shirts?

Hey guys!

After a loooong dropshipping break, I decided to start a new online venture with a friend of mine who is a designer. We chose a good niche and decided to go through with it soon enough.

I'm taking care of marketing and business side while he will be the creative force and design t-shirts which we will sell through Print-On-Demand service (POD).

However, one thing I'm always hesitant about is setting the right price so the profit margin is high but still having a product that's going to sell.
I know that we could go premium and make money there but what's the ideal profit margin per t-shirt in your opinion?

For classic t-shirt Men and women I sell them for 19,99$ sometimes I put like 10% discount ( to increase conversion), profit around 10$ to 13$
For hoodies 34,99$ and the profit is around 16$ to 18$.

Could you tell me which POD you use?

Because wherever I look, minimum t-shirt price is $15.

I don't get it!!? Normaly in POD you ( most of the time) set the price ( except if you are using teepublic, which I don't recommend you using it, because of the profit margine = 5$).
You can start with Teespring. Teechip ( but there are many bad reviews about them, YET you can create your own domain with them and you'll get charged 50$ a year. there are also viralstyle etc. just google them and see which one would suit you the best. Good luck

Shipping and the other stuff is handled by the POD company, but you can choose to make some discount from time to time like free shipping like 10 or 50% off or 5$ off.

I meant the base price of t-shirt. On printful for example, I don't think there's a t-shirt cheaper than $15 base price.

there are just look for it.. Printful has the best quality that's why the prices are way too high... there are some companies that have the base cost of shirt = 5$

Honestly there are tons of POD services, just type in google Print on Demand and filter it to your country

I myself also want to start a POD and I saw that average price people charge for a T-shirt is around $20.

I know, I just always thought for some reason the base price of t-shirts was the same and therefore was just like "I'll go with printful"

Research is always the key, gotta do more of that!

i sell t-shirts for 29-30$ (10% coupon is also available) and im doing well, so basically i earn 20$/tshirt
im using customcat which until now it has proven to have lowest prices

But I think you can charge a bit more than $20 when you create a t-shirt that creates an emotional attachment to someone or the design is very eye catching and appealing.

Well yeah, but I'm kinda hesitant to go the premium route

i had my shop in shopify and customcat app had 50/50 bad reviews but to be honest none of my costumers complained and they are loving fast delivery
i pay $10 for a tshirt with shipping within usa and that's quite good
If you want low production price then go with woocommerce as with shopify they have a $2+ fee for each product or $30 monthly to get the lowest price

Thats the problem, for someone who wants to start in the POD business with very little budget is very overwhelming. After a big research i def believe Printfull offers the best all around value as it has API integration with many marketplaces like Etsy and Inktale even with Ebay and Amazon but you´ll have to pay for a professional sellers account. You can also integrate your printfull account with WooCommerce and even use their API key to manually integrate to other platforms. And even tho Printfull handles shipping you can also outsource this to shipstation which they also have an integration option too, but this is a paid service.
Unfortunally, i dont have a credit/debit nor an international bank account and therefore i can setup paypal with printful, i have to use other PODs that doesnt require paypal verification through debit/credit card and/or bank accounts like Zazzle, TeeChip and Spreadshirt. If anyone knows a way how to get around this cuz i would love to use printfull for this, cheers.

I actually wanted to go with Squarespace, in love with their store design tool.

I was going to go with shopify or squarespace but finally went with woocommerce and wordpress, it makes the cost lower and therefore I can put that towards seo.
