An idea popped into my head after reading Cindy's thread. It is nothing new or unheard of but IMO it could be an awesome addition to the forum.

I don't know about you guys but I like to read through those valuable threads within BHW which tend to be pages long. There's quite a few of them. What I don't like is to go through pages of such threads where people either write thank you posts or ask questions that have been answered before, or post some other bullshit that clutters up the thread and makes information less accessible.

So I was thinking, why not implement a "-" (minus) button at the side of each post or something like that so that useless posts can be down rated by users and therefore based on a certain amount of ratings become hidden so that we don't have to sort through crap when trying to access information. Obviously the posts would still be available to everyone but they would be minimized from the general view and anyone that wants to see them would be able to un-hide them. Just like YT comments. There's already the ignore user feature which hides every single post created by such a user so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to implement a feature like this one.

I'm pretty sure that unless strict rules are enforced it will be unlikely for anything to change in terms of users posting useless posts, but such a feature could most definitely be very beneficial.

    What do you think?

I can haz spoon feeding plz?? pm me bro etc.

Thank god for the ingenious people on this forum like you. I hope this gets implemented.

I remember there was post like option, and most liked posts could be seen at the top, it was quite cool, but after update was fixed, it got removed.

I think that is what you wanted

Not exactly sure that the implementation like you described is the way to go since there will always be more people supporting these idiot threads than members supporting the right stuff but I like where you're going with this.

The REP clubs would certainly be my first target.

I think it would be good for threads , where are a lot of replies, and should be used only to like good answers, so others can easily read that when they open thread they wont need to go throught like few pages to find that.

Idk maybe some remember that like feature when new forum update came out

I like this idea. Voted yes...I too like reading those huge threads with tons of pages, and I'm sick of seeing those "i dont undrstan plz teach me" posts that are in most of those kinds of threads.

Yes, the like feature was nice but it was pretty much similar to the thanks button and didn't really help much as posts are still visible.

But with such a system you wouldn't be able to abuse it. There would only be a minus button, no plus. So abuse isn't really possible unless it's a gang of noobs teaming up and down rating posts that they don't like. But then some kind of logs would be kept and such people would easily be picked out?

No I mean all these recent rep threads are
    A) An eyesore
    B) Made for attention and rep
    C) Contribute nothing to the forum

We should have the option of hiding them and your suggestion would allow for that, so A+ to you.

But wouldnt + button be better in this case ? All good posts would be on top and those bad ones would be under them ?

On 1 site, there was + and - on comments, best ones at the top, and last one on the buttom, but those who were with like 15 - were removed and you sould see them only if you click : "Show comment"

But this whole would make mess, where will new posts show up?

I know I'm the minority here but giving rep to members encourages them to contribute more for the benefit of the whole community. I hate any talk that stifles participation. The majority of the threads on BHW don't contribute anything to me but who am I to say they shouldn't exist if they benefit others?

I'm out for a bit as I don't like where this talk is headed.

I rep people all the time for taking time to contribute, lighten up life a bit with a joke or two or restore people that have been neg repped by someone that had a hair up their ass. I didn't think doing something positive for people would be a violation of rules. Maybe they should change the message when someone leaves rep that says Thank you and maybe you'll be lucky and receive some rep in return for leaving rep.

As for noobs with 3000 reps, I haven't see a noob yet with 3000 reps. Maybe I missed one somewhere. Maybe the people with higher rep counts participate on this forum more than those that have been on here since 2008 and don't have 3000 reps yet. Maybe they lighten up life for others, make us chuckle, make us laugh a bit. Maybe they're not all about money and only post when they have some thing to promote or prove their authority. I didn't see the rep qualification post until today and while I agree there shouldn't get collusion to better rep scores, I've never seen this; Not once! Someone leaves rep for me and I toss them on my friends list most of the time. I see their posts and when I like them I thank them and sometimes rep them. I didn't know the post has to "qualify" to some imaginary rules before I could rep the person.

You guys carry on, I'll see you next week. I don't like people criticizing people that contribute so much to the community and make them feel awkward.

I couldnt say this more better. Nicelly put down.
Reputation is just points, and its good to receive it for posts i have made with all messages what people leave. I think thats called being sharing and cering and helping others.

Anyway, lets just stop this nonsense and lets talk about the thread and idea.
I will share more things soon, so lets keep up the sharing and caring spirit :)

Implement this for jrvip+ only, that way its another good encouragement to support the forum, and means that new people don't get ignored by the majority of members.

I really don't have a hard time reading... personally, I think this is a bad idea. For example, I've seen mob mentality take over a few threads. (mobs which I led... but may have been wrong... and that doesn't mean they should have been deleted)

I think it would ruin the community of facts and ideas when they are put to a hidden vote, as opposed to open conjecture.

One perfect example of why this wouldn't work.... someone tries to scam another member in the open, everyone votes it down, the post dissappears. As opposed to being removed by a mod and having the user banned. Or not even scam, just break the rules.

I have faith in the leaders of this forum. Compared to other forums I'm on, they do a fantastic job. When you let everyone be a mod, it will turn into a mob, and a popularity contest.

For the record... rep is great and all, but it's not dollars. :)

I was thinking that the option would be personal for everyone, So if there was a thread that i could "minus" then it would only be me who couldn't see it after that. It wouldn't be based on a voting thing.

I would love to be able see a more targeted "what i want to see " bhw homepage.
