After the megaupload fiasco, and a ton of filesharing sites shutting down affiliate programs... and some sites even shutting down all by themselves.

I would not doubt if Google on it's own, without SOPA and government intervention would stop indexing sites with pirated content.

What do you guys think..... is this prediction right....

or do you think Google has balls of steel... and will stand the storm?

Opinions are highly welcomed.

It could definitively happen, which imo would be a good thing. If piracy is only taking away a small amount of customers then its no big deal but if piracy is so easy that the average joe can do it then that's a huge issue. Obviously the content creators don't work for free.

In order for that to make any real difference to Holywood, it would probably also have to deindex every site that links to a site that has pirated content.

That being said, the really bad offenders may get deindexed and I wouldn't be surprised to see some algorithm changes that would make it tougher to find pirated content while at the same time promoting redbox, netflix, itunes, etc...

I totally agree with you. Actually its not new. Double content was the first wave. Now if you are not unique you are out. It wouldn't be much a surprise if the next wave , if its not urz , u are out ! . Google is very smart and can always play with both sides ( playing by the Law and for the customers benefit ). I don't think Google would be affected like Wikipedia or Youtube anyway. Those whom we should as about

The devil is in the detail. "Sites with pirated content" means pretty much every single user-submitted content site in the world. Do I think they will start censoring Youtube, Facebook, Reddit & co. Nope.

They already censor links to pages with "pirate content", so they'll probably just keep doing that. Unless of course SOPA passes.

Who knows! It may or may not happen but what is most likely to happen is this...

Google launches "File Sharing" division integrated with +1 complete with Adsense advertisements.
