I wonder how "Google Instant" is going to effect SEO

No SEO effect. But is SUCK. For everyone; especially google adwords advertisers. CTR will sky rocket now (negatively), I hope google has a new algorithm in place already.

It is also not comfortable and retarded. Google want us to think less.

But now they are changing stuff more often and it affects SEO, this "instant crap" is crap like the new google images that doesn't allow to navigate the page.

Google instant will make things worse for marketers because people will spot the big authority sites early on before they have finished typing in the full keyword.

For example, you may have optimized for "buy ipads cheap".

The user then types in "buy ipads" but then spots a big authority site like amazon or nextag and ends up never typing in the full keyword.

Therefore, Google instant will see more traffic going to authority sites which can dominate shorter, broader keywords. Long tail marketers and Google snipers will see a visible reduction in their traffic.

If Instant lasts (And thats a moderately sized 'IF' - there is a lot of searcher and advertiser resentment being polled online, it could go the way of Wave), It's gonna impact consumer search patterns rather than SEO factors. Long-tail keywords are still unique searches in their own right, if people searching for a long-tail do get tempted by keystroke-laziness into a broader keyword / authority site by Instant, after not finding the specific info they were after, in most cases they will do a refined search for the long-tail.

It's not necessary though or worth the effort to try to predict what effect Instant is gonna have on search patterns / SEO, as long as you have effective keyword-analysis processes ticking away, any impact will show up in those results - just refine your SEO strategy accordingly.

SEO hasn't been static since the 90's..

Google Instant will have implications on both SEO and PPC. SMM, email marketing, and online media buying would stay as before so it is good to start making use of them more.

Some people will stop typing when a brand name comes up in search results, others would choose any of the suggested long-tail keywords. Either way, there searches would be more refined, and the traffic would be split between multiple websites. In any case, I don't think the old system of "Get to #1 Spot and get 65% of the traffic" would continue any longer.

I believe Google introduced Instant feature not just to reduce the time it takes for people to find information, but to curb Blackhat SEO, MFA sites etc. too. No longer would a handful of keywords dominate a niche, but one would have to focus on adding quality content. Information which would help the visitors- taking into account what the Google Instant suggestions are.

As far as PPC is concerned, the impressions would increase and the clicks would decrease. This would decrease the quality score and hence the CPC would be slightly higher. However, with more refined queries being entered, chances for higher conversions would be better than before.

IF Google Instant becomes a permanent feature, then SEO would have to evolve. Keyword strategy may require a change, and focusing on the cluster of suggestions offered by Google Instant and trying to gain the top spots for the same would become the new goal of SEO's worldwide.

It just changes the way you get the results. "I did not even have to press enter!". You can still use the "old" google if you want. I think it won't change anything, it's just a new feature which represents the results instantly. That's all.

It will change SEO methods. No doubt about it. For example if you wanted to rank well for "Naruto Action Figures", you now have to try to rank well for "Naruto", "Naruto Action", as well as "Naruto Action Figures" because otherwise you will likely lose some traffic to the "instant" results that pop up as the potential visitor types.
